I'm trying to find a smoking gun that a bone marrow aspirate injection is definitely for improving cartilage. I see that it can be done for that (including a study of bone marrow aspirate vs. microfracture in horses), but I can't find something that says this is definitely (and only) to improve cartilage thickness.

If this is just to help knee arthritis, then that's one thing... the cartilage is another.

Umm, maybe i missed something, but... "fluid build up in the knee" doesn't mean bone on bone. Two very different things.

I was apart of the group who also knew he was still injured however, I was still upset with him. He shouldn't have come back. He was clearly still hurt and playing hurt means you can hurt yourself more. Like I've said before we don't need another Tracy we were doing fine without him. Nothing wrong with sitting.

One good news about this procedure is that this is suppose to fix his bone on bone problem in his knee a little bit. Doctors take few immature soft tissues from howards hip and inject it into his knee. Over time the immature soft tissue is suppose to mature into healthy cartilage, bone, and ligament. LETS HOPE HE GETS BACK HEALTHY.

Based on the procedures Dwight has undergone, through his own words and with rest not helping the knee I think "bone on bone" is just about a certainty at this point. The Rockets just are not willing to come out and say it.

I have not seen any studies (granted I just started googling an hour ago) done with athletes. Will it work on 50 year olds who just want to walk up stairs again? Apparently. The question is will it work on a 6'10", 265lb 29 year old professional basketball player who abuses his knees every single day.

I am hoping that, a doctor told him it might be beneficial to play again. Because if you are saying things like bone on bone and you are clearly not playing like yourself why continue to put yourself at risk. We were doing fine without him. We definitely need him come playoff time but we were doing fine without him regular season.

If it was just to help knee arthritis, I don't understand why Rockets management wouldn't come out and say just that.

Considering this procedure is known to improve cartilage and he has already mentioned bone on bone.....I think the evidence leans heavily towards one side of the argument.

They're not. They also want to delay any surgery (if needed) by trying non-surgical options first. Morey said that recently. Then they released news about this marrow aspirate injection.

They don't want to signal to opponents that Dwight won't come back in the playoffs.

Meanwhile we better fast-track any trades and put Capela on a crash course.

Welp. Probably as much confirmation of #BoneOnBone as we'll get.

Dwight Howard receives bone marrow aspirate injection...

Dwight Howard receives bone marrow aspirate injection...
Source: Per the rockets face book. I'm no doctor so if anyone has insight it would be greatly appreciated. The teams official face book says Dwight is taking 4 weeks to rehabilitate his knee and will be revaulated at that time.

Really hoping this isn't the type of shot Brandon Roy was going through :(

Couldn't the cartilage be very worn and/or thin abd they are trying to rejuvenate it and stop it from becoming bone on bone.

I'm always optimistic so I'll stay this way although this is all starting to look bad.
