I think many cops are equal opportunity assholes. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/WeBKYfHL2uw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Synopsis. Mom stops to use public bathroom Asks cop why they aren't doing anything about a car alarm going off Cop tells her to mind her own business Mom calls police station to complain about him Same cop pulls her over for seat belt violation Several cops beat the crap of her while her kids are in the car watching Mom goes to hospital and is diagnosed with brain contusions and concussion Video comes out DA drops charges against mom Mom files lawsuit
Citizens presumed criminals until proven otherwise. Cop always innocent until video proof. Oh, wait that often doesn't do it either. We need a complete independent body to investigate and prosecute cops wrong doing.
I'm sorry, are women supposed to be given special privileges and rights? Maybe she should have kept her children safe and complied with the officer stopping her for the seatbelt violation. Men get shot, punched, kicked, tased, maced, and beat all the time without people batting an eyelash; they go to prison for much less than what happened here.
Yeah, cops may do this kind of crap disproportionately to people of color, but they do it to everyone else as well. The police and justice system in this country is broken, and while race certainly plays a part in many instances, it isn't the root of the issue. The root is the power of bureaucracy in this country and the disproportionate amount of power that cops (those bureaucrats with guns) have over the rest of the population they are tasked with policing (not to mention the disproportionate amount of power that politicians (the bosses of the cops) have over the rest of the population they are tasked with governing).
You are wrong about that. Only moving violations are not arrestable. You can go to jail for not wearing a seatbelt. http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=93495
She didn't go to jail because of her seatbelt. She went to jail because the cop had a personal vendetta against her because he felt disrespected. Saying that it could have been worse for her just goes to show how skewed how view of what is acceptable behavior from police officers is.
I'm beginning to question just how 'Free' are we We *might* have some big freedoms but we lose an aweful lot of little ones. Rocket River

somebody was having a bad day... it'll cost them probably... if these are all true facts. This happened two years ago; are people just looking for bad publicity for the police?
Maybe because the Police Dept didn't do anything about for 2 years so now they are suing. Either way, when people are abused by cop, cop cause bad publicity to themselves. When police dept do not handle these type of cases in an open, transparent manner that satisfy the victim and the public, the dept cause bad publicity to themselves. In almost every government agency, there is over sight and some balance of power. Police has no such thing. They police themselves, they prosecute themselves. Once ina while, in extreme case, there might be some independent investigation, but accountability is still lacking in almost all cases. Conflict of interest with the license to kill or severely abuse citizens under the protection of "protecting" police life has gone too far to one side and too abusive. We need a complete independent body for investigation into police wrong doing. We need more cameras to provide witness without bias.
The response of the police department is bold and certain. I wonder if it is two years old, too, or more recent. Something seems up...
