[draftexpress] Rockets being rejected by high quality free agents among rookie class

    Seriously, though, I am curious to see who fills out the Rockets summer roster. In prior years, some summer league contributors, including unsigned FAs like Hayes and Temple, have proven to be competent NBA guys.

    Was hoping the Rocket would get a look of some of these guys, like Zoubek, Blakely and Randle, but whatever. I wonder if the fact that the Rockets expect to have Hill, Bud, Patterson and Taylor on the SL squad makes it less appealing for some of the undrafted rooks and their agents because they are afraid the guys with guaranteed money will take up most of the PT.

    Until/unless we do a 3 or 4 man trade for Bosh, there's no room on our squad. No undrafted player would sign here. It's purely a numbers game. They would be stupid to do so.

    Me, too. I thought he would be an early-to-mid-2nd rounder but didn't get drafted. He might be worth a look as a 3rd point or backup if Lowry leaves.

    That may change of course... just a guess, but guys who go undrafted but are in demand for summer league play always look for playing opportunity. Houston has a lot of depth (and young depth) right now -- I don't think they look attractive from an opportunity-standpoint at any position to guys who right now are worried about their ability to make the show.

    PG -- Aaron Brooks, Kyle Lowry
    SG -- Kevin Martin, Chase Budinger, Jermaine Taylor
    SF -- Trevor Ariza, Shane Battier
    PF -- Luis Scola, Jordan Hill, Patrick Patterson, Chuck Hayes
    C -- Yao Ming, Derek Anderson, likely free agent

    More opportunity would open up for Houston after a trade, but that's cutting it close for pre-summer league.

    Derek Anderson is still on the team and now he's a center? :)

    Edit:
    But I agree, the Rockets are not the most attractive spot for undrafted FA now. Maybe possibly for a center, since Yao is always an injury risk and will play limited minutes, and Andersen isn't exactly a stud.

    Anyhow, nothing to worry about since it's only summer league and unless these guys remain FAs until actually signed by the NBA team to at least an unguaranteed contract. Can invite them to training camp or sign them later in the season if they want to.

    I agree. Everyone is looking for their best opportunity to stick. Agood 2 might have a slim chance to make it. Here is a list of players the ROckets worked out that went undrafted.
