I do not think that this has been posted already. But here it is. (hint: click the hyperlink) The spot is pretty impressive, imo, for a grassroots effort...
Achebe, You would have to be sort of apolitical to want the guy to be president based on that ad. He isn't running for general. There needs to be some sort of indication whether he belongs to a political party or has some interests besides the military. With an appeal only to fear of Bin Laden it plays into the Bush campaign's hands.
glynch, I think you misunderstand the point of the ad. It's just a pep-rally video. It's not a 'vote for Clark' effort as much as it is an attempt to get Clark to enter the race. It appeals to his stature, and the obvious point of his candidacy to begin with (trump Bush's hand on security). But during the election it will be up to the candidate to define himself.
This is my guy. If he runs, I'll support him and contribute to his effort. I'm going to do what I can, because not only is he superbly qualified, he actually is a moderate Democrat who is right where I want him on the issues. Go to the site and check out his stand on women's rights, the Patriot Act, the incredible budget deficit, Bush's tax cuts, foreign affairs, including Iraq and fighting terrorism... that and many other issues that concern the majority of Democrats and Independents and moderate Republicans. And he will be the most qualified President to deal with the defense of our country since Dwight D. Eisenhower. Enough is there to make an informed decision. I've made it. Wesley Clark for President. www.DraftWesleyClark.com.
I don't know. Clark received a ton of criticism over Kosovo, especially when he attempted to move against the Russian troops at the airport. He also was consistently wrong with his war analysis on CNN (I think it was CNN). I am more impressed with Gore by far, and I think Gore will end up running.
Clark received a ton of criticism over Kosovo, especially when he attempted to move against the Russian troops at the airport. Ultimately, if US troops keep getting hit Iraq, I think he'll be able to use the fact that he led the US troops in Kosovo with 0 US casualities to his advantage (yes, I know the circumstances are different, but as a soundbite, it works). I think his non-political background is a HUGE advantage and he can legitimately "stand above the fray". He's my guy if he runs - I think he's the guy who can really beat Bush and nullify any/all of Bush's strengths.
hey! that will give you something to do besides hang out and drink beer with me after we both quit our jobs so we can read that long thread!
Yeah, unfortunately voting for myself would only take about five or ten minutes. What would I do with the rest of my day? Oh yeah....I forgot...DRINK MORE BEER!!!!
Wesley Clark showed how the US should fight a conflict. Rummy and crew showed how NOT to fight a conflict. The military wanted twice as many troops on the ground but Rummy overruled them.
