I don't know what other sites to go to for draft coverage after Draftexpress. They had comprehensive analysis on pretty obscure prospects, workout videos, and exclusive interviews. They put in a lot of work and I'm glad they're getting rewarded, but this kind of sucks.
Probably Nbadraft.net, but its a far second as draftexpress had a lot more coverage in terms of schmitz's youtube vids and they had accurately predicted so many picks the last couple of years.
Their 2018 mock was incomplete, they left a few top prospects off. I knew something was up, but they days of their content being free are gone via Espn.
Tbh this is a total headscratcher for me, Draftexpress had cornered their niche in the market and I'm pretty sure they were making tons of $$$ from their site, I mean they are just two guys sharing the pie and they got so many hits esp during their peak time which was the draft...this isn't like the basketball jones they were like Woj and current Shams combined thats how much they left everyone in the dust. Sure ESPN probably gave them a nice salary but as we've seen with Stein and Ford working for espn is not stable, they can be fired any time and by the time that happens their draftexpress brand is already gone. I think this is a paul george to lakers type of move, maybe they just dreamt of working for espn for so long that when eson came calling they jumped ship even if it doesn't make sense to do so logically speaking.
Obviously ESPN made it more than worth their while financially. Probably made an offer they just couldn't refuse. Very logical for them to say yes.
Maybe they weren't. Maybe with the move they doubled their income. I don't blame them. Journalists work for a living. These are tough times and they have families. ESPN Insider costs what, $5 a month? One cup of coffee? If we are up in arms about that, then c'mon.
Yeah I know but the difference with Draft express is they were their own owners, it's not like Woj transferring from Yahoo to ESPN at the end of the day he was still an employee so it would make sense to go to where he got paid more. In DX's case, they owned the website you'd think the hits and ad revenue they got from there would be a lot considering everyone goes there. It's not like ESPN is an up and coming company with lots of potential the only way they can go from here is down, in fact didn't they just fire almost every core staff they had due to losses? IMHO they just tied themselves to a sinking ship. Well anyway best of luck to them I just hope they don't regret their decision in a couple of years.
