I guess Doug didn't like the new ownership coming into Buffalo.

If his consulting can actually help I'm all for it. He almost had something going with the Bills

As a Texans supporter, I hope he and Nate Hackett are not hired by the team.

Unless Kyle Shanahan is dead set on Denver, Baltimore should go after him 1st to ensure continuity with what Kubiak established this year.

Shanahan has reportedly signed on with Atlanta.

I still struggle to see what value Marrone would bring to the team if we don't even know who our starting quarterback is. That's a much more important need to address over random consultants with blurry job descriptions. If he wants to come, fine, welcome aboard. If not, fine, I hope you lose in Baltimore or Jacksonville or wherever. We've got bigger fish to fry.

    Agreed.

Since this team hasn't announced a starting QB for next year, they should just fire all the assistants and personnel people and consultants. Teams don't run without a QB.

Maybe he comes as the Offensive Coordinator and frees OB up.

Good. I'd hate for the Texans to waste time hiring coaches when they don't have next year's starting QB figured out.

Speaking of that, did you guys see that the Texans are promoting Brian Gaine within the organization? What a joke of an organization, promoting people and talking to potential coaches when they don't even have a QB figured out!

Who has QB figured out in the NFL? 7 teams? Better to admit the surefire answer isn't out there than go all-in on a low ceiling option. So many NFL teams have sealed their fate or set their franchise back by doing that. Guess what, the cold reality is there just aren't many great QB's. You can either deal with it or pretend like a Geno Smith or Jake Locker is going to be the guy.

So you quit you job as a head coach to become an O-Line coach. This guy is going to have a hard time getting another job I believe.

Agreed. Hard to believe this guy QUIT his job as the head coach of a bubble playoff team to become the assistance coach of an also ran.

A lot of you guys are assuming Marrone just up and quit.

From what I read with 1 year left on his contract, rumors of him and management not agreeing personnel moves(drafting Manuel, trading a future 1st for Watkins in a loaded WR draft), and new ownership, he wanted an extension for him and his staff and when he was told no thats a pretty big sign you probably aren't in the future plans of the Bills so why stay when you have an opt out that was negotiated in your contract?

His money was guaranteed anyway. He kept his salary despite opting out. What was especially unique was that the way the opt out was written, the Bills can't offset his salary by the money he gets from another team. So opting out and taking a job as a janitor would make him more money than staying the coach of the Bills.
