I think many of you are going to be disappointed when DMo gets little or no playing time. I wish he could have gotten some more games in at the D-League level.
I don't think they called him up just to sit him deep on the bench again. Usually they send guys to the NBDL because they won't get PT.
The thing that is excellent wit d-mo is he seems to know exactly were the basket is and how far he is from it when he is posting up he is a excellent finisher around the rim he has said that he has always played like Scola and he does he looks like a taller bigger Scola but d-mo also has terrific speed and hes got great handles too his court vision is good I can go on and on the need to release the eagle because this dude has star written all over him plus his attitude is what seperates him from other scrub hyped up big men
He didn't get enough time to bulk up. We need that height/presence in the paint! Asik is doing everything, he's startin to run on empty
He can bulk up just as well, if not even better, playing 20 minutes in the NBA as he can playing 35 in the D-League...
He should be getting 15 to 20 minutes every game at least. It's a travesty he's not playing. I didn't see a lot of shooting there though. Hopefully he can develop his shot in the post more.
D-Mo is a better fit on this team than Jones. He can do all the things we need to open up the offense.
I think they called him up again just so they can have the extra body in practice. Isn't it possible for them to send him right back down once Aldrich and Delfino are good to go?
I hope that the coaching staff would use him and not rot on the bench. I would hate if they use him for energency purposes or in blow outs only.
It should be obvious to all Rockets fans that Daryl Morey is looking to audition its three young bigs for the next month or so in anticipation of a classic quantity-for-quality trade which nets Houston a very good starting PF, presumably Paul Millsap. Which largely explains the promotion of Donatas Motiejunas here. Look for uneven playing time for Patrick Patterson, Marcus Morris, Terrence Jones, and Motiejunas for the next month or so (i.e., big minutes on one night, limited or zero minutes the next night). However, please note that the players who Houston will likely need to package into such a trade as filler--Daequan Cook and Cole Aldrich (both expiring contracts)--are ineligible to be traded in such a multi-player deal until 12/28/12. Also, please note that Carlos Delfino, himself an expiring contract, for all intents and purposes (there is a team option for 2013-14), is ineligible to be traded until 12/15/12. Also note that Houston has about $2 mil in cap space, so it has some flexibility here. Houston would presumably package one or more of its expiring contracts with Patrick Patterson (owed $3.1 mil in 2013-14), one of its three young bigs (Marcus Morris, Donatas Motiejunas, Terrence Jones), and possibly Royce White for Paul Millsap and filler. 2012-13 salaries of relevant Rockets players: Daequan Cook $3.1 mil (expiring contract) Carlos Delfino $3.0 mil (again, an expiring contract, for all intents and purposes) Cole Aldrich $2.4 mil (expiring contract) Patrick Patterson $2.1 mil in 2012-13, $3.1 mil in 2013-14 Toney Douglas $2.1 mil (expiring contract) Marcus Morris $2.0 mil Royce White $1.6 mil Terrence Jones $1.5 mil Donatas Motiejunas $1.4 mil 2012-13 salaries of relevant Jazz players: Paul Millsap $7.2 mil (will be an unrestricted free agent in summer 2013) Raja Bell $3.5 mil (expiring contract) Randy Foye $2.5 mil (expiring contract) Earl Watson $2.0 mil (expiring contract) Jamaal Tinsley $1.4 mil (expiring contract) DeMarre Carroll $885K (expiring contract) Kevin Murphy $474K (team option for 2013-14, so an expiring contract, essentially) As you can see, the deal would basically be something along these lines: To HOU (around $9.1 mil in 2012-13 salaries) Paul Millsap Jamaal Tinsley Kevin Murphy To UTA (between $7.5 mil-$8.1 mil in 2012-13 salaries) Patrick Patterson Marcus Morris, Terrence Jones, or Donatas Motiejunas Royce White Cole Aldrich We might also see Houston parlay its unused cap space into a first round pick by absorbing an unwanted contract from a team looking to dodge the luxury tax or at least reduce its luxury tax penalty. The Bulls fit this description, and would likely package Richard Hamilton (owed $5 mil in 2012-13, the last year of his contract) with a Bulls first round pick for something vague like "cash considerations." Houston might keep this pick; more likely, they'd throw the pick into the Millsap deal. Houston would obviously try to re-sign Millsap to an extension prior to the beginning of the 2013 free agency period. Houston's rotation for the foreseeable future would be intact, and would look something like this: Starting lineup PG Jeremy Lin SG James Harden SF Chandler Parsons PF Paul Millsap C Omer Asik Key reserves Remaining young big man #1 (Marcus Morris, Terrence Jones, or Donatas Motiejunas) Remaining young big man #2 (Morris, Jones, or Motiejunas) Shooter (Daequan Cook or whoever, this name will change over time) Backup PG (Toney Douglas, Jamaal Tinsley, or whoever, this name will also change)
Deep Bench? Delfino is out. Morris becomes the backup SF. Aldrich is out. DMo got called to be an emergency player as the bench is really thin at the 4/5. There is no one else to call up and ride pine in case of an injury. Jones is a much better fit defensively for this team. Coaches are generally more willing to play a better defender before a better offensive player.
