Whoever we trade Everett for. I KNOW defense is vital. So is getting that run home from third with 1 out. His defense is overrated, imo. No gold glove on his mantle. Lots of crazy throws at crucial times. If you want a name - OK, I'll throw one out ... hows about a 75 year-old Omar Vizquel? Gold Gloves 1993-AL--SS 1994-AL--SS 1995-AL--SS 1996-AL--SS 1997-AL--SS 1998-AL--SS 1999-AL--SS 2000-AL--SS 2001-AL--SS 2005-NL--SS 2006-NL--SS + he can hit his way out of a wet paper SACK.
Thank you. I try. On a more serious note, I don't know WHO or WHAT I'd like to play SS instead. Just gets tiresome sometimes to see Brad & Adam coming up with guys on base, & usually (more often than not) we all know what happens. I can live with Everett, I guess ... if the rest of the guys can hit.
Gold Gloves are meaningless, Everett is a better fielder than Vizquel ever was. I'm thankful that the Astros don't make personnel decisions based on what you think "gets tiresome".
It's the baseball and it doesnt have luxury tax. Players get the market price. Yeah,we all know Wells is better than Lee. BUT Lee is a FA and only need money to get him. Wells is not and you need to give up some real good players/prospects to get him for ONE year rental. After that you probably have to pay more to get his service.
Actually, they do have a scale of revenue sharing... which functions as a luxury tax for the huge spending teams. If all teams decide to spend, however, there is less of a penalty for the middle teams... since they'll still fall in the same slot of revenue sharing position.
But consider Astros' positive debt/revenue ratio, it's hard to imagine McLane has to pay revenue-sharing deduction.
