DD's thread got me thinking about this. Are Christmas bonuses a thing of the past or still going strong? Are people getting gift cards to duck the bonus tax or actual cash?
Where I work, our bonus comes in Q1 of the year usually. Don't really care what time the bonus actually comes in personally, just happy when that it's there
My company gives a bonus in May if profit goals are met. Hasn't happened in 3 years and nobody thinks it will in the foreseeable future.
This is why when I negotiate my salary for a new position I get in writing (employment contract) that I get an annual bonus. Most companies try and furlough bonuses when they can to boost returns to investors, and many use the "economic downturn" as an excuse to do so even when profits are at or exceed normal levels.
here in the Philippines we call it 13th Month pay. 4 days Christmas vacation (paid) + Your salary +100% bonus.... favorite month of the year.
Feeling like Clark Griswold waiting for mine. Any one want to play the role of Cousin Eddie, bring my boss to me so I can tell him what a nice guy he is?
I feel you man. We lost our monthly & annual bonus this year because our owner claims we arent that profitable anymore and need to keep hitting our mark to become "healthy" again. Its been since last May when I got my last bonus. Lost hope
My band gets a Christmas bonus. Gotta love these high-paying corporate Christmas party gigs all month!
Here's the thing: My company makes money every year. Because of very aggressive growth, profit slipped but we are still the envy of our industry. The growth phase has gone to another level and will stay that way quite some time.
The past two years have been a flat sum across the board for all employees. For me, it works out to about 1% of my salary, but for the minimum wage employees, that dollar amount is a much higher % of their annual pay. There's also a big Christmas party where everyone gets a gift card, lunch, and they give away a bunch of pretty good prizes (cash, TVs, iPads, etc).
My company gives everyone a $600 bonus right before Thanksgiving so that we all have it for Black Friday. We also receive our annual performance bonus in February.
