Houston trades: Maurice Taylor (11.5 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.4 apg in 27.8 minutes) C. Weatherspoon (5.0 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 0.6 apg in 16.7 minutes) Adrian Griffin (0.6 ppg, 1.0 rpg, 0.5 apg in 7.0 minutes) Future #1 Houston receives: Antonio Daniels (8.0 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 4.2 apg in 21.3 minutes) Antonio Davis (8.8 ppg, 8.4 rpg, 1.7 apg in 32.1 minutes) Change in team outlook: -0.3 ppg, +0.4 rpg, and +3.4 apg. Seattle trades: Antonio Daniels (8.0 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 4.2 apg in 21.3 minutes) Jerome James (5.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 0.5 apg in 15.2 minutes) Seattle receives: Maurice Taylor (11.5 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.4 apg in 75 games) Rockets Future #1 Change in team outlook: -1.5 ppg, -0.4 rpg, and -3.3 apg. Chicago trades: Antonio Davis (8.8 ppg, 8.4 rpg, 1.7 apg in 32.1 minutes) Chicago receives: C. Weatherspoon (5.0 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 0.6 apg in 52 games) Adrian Griffin (0.6 ppg, 1.0 rpg, 0.5 apg in 19 games) Jerome James (5.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 0.5 apg in 65 games) Change in team outlook: +1.8 ppg, 0.0 rpg, and -0.1 apg. Houston: Gets the PG it needs in Daniel and A. Davis is a decent backup 4/5 (despite being 32+ and highly over paid). Davis (2 yrs 25 M) comes off the book in two yrs as compared to Mo T/Spoon 3/2 yrs (42 M). So despite taking his fat contract Rockets save roughly 12 M in salary. Using the trade exception, we can add add some depth if we really find some decent players at a bargain price and save the mid-level exception to get someone like SAR next year. Chicago: Gets the expiring contracts of J James and A. Griffin and despite taking spoon will shave the salary by 7-8 M next year, when they would need to sign Curry/Chandler. Seattle: They are trying to retool and desperately need a PF, and are not likely to get through free agency. Despite being overpaid Mo T is still young and a significant improfement over any of their big man. Additional first rounder will be a bonus.
Not bad at all. Did you run the numbers to see if it works? A combo of Yao - Howard - Davis on the frontline is stout. Mc Grady - Boki at the 3 spot. JJ - Pike at the 2. Daniels - Lue at the 1. It looks pretty good, but our backup C/PF makes more than both our starting C & PF together
Im opposed to any dea involving Antonio Davis. He is exactly what we don't need. 35 years old shoots close to 40% the last 3 years oh, and he makes around $13 MIL a year for the next 2 years no thanks
I am too. But as the thread starter explained, we are trading two bad contracts for one very bad contract. That's fair enough. We don't need his shooting. He's a short term fix for our need of backup big. The important thing is, we get Daniels for our PG need.
Honestly, and I can't believe im saying this, I am comfortable with Taylor/Howard rotating the backup 5 spot over AD. Id rather have Mo's offense and bad reboudning at $7 MIL, than AD's rebounding and bad shooting at $12 MIL. And while I like Daniels, I don't like him enough to give away a 1st AND take on AD's age and contract.
Taylor is actually making 9 mil for the next 3 years. If we can trade him for a shorter contract that is half way decent, I’m all for it. Summer of 2006, the Rockets would have a boatload of cap space to go after free agents.
That's the key. Who cares how much Davis makes? His contract is SHORTER in length and thus helps us cut salary that much quicker. The quicker this team can jettison the parts that aren't in its future the sooner we can get one with building the right team around Yao and Tmac. I dont mind taking on Davis if we are giving up bad salaries in Taylor and Spoon.
Hmm.....we get Daniels as our starting PG, and a decent PF (Davis) for two years that expires in 2006. I like it....very convenient....and like Deuce said clears up space for "free agents"....especially the most important one of them all........YAO! With Davis' contract expiring thats just more money to throw at the big fella. Man i hope they would try and get this done. (too bad its just speculation tho )
