Does anybody here think it's possible the Rockets don't make any major moves in free agency?

They had cap space and the cap was expected to go up even more. Ryan Anderson's deal was a little above market rate that year, but everybody was getting paid like crazy.

Many teams have a Ryan Anderson-like contract right now because of that year's free agency.

Yeah! Let's go back to being a 40 win team with all our own picks! This 65 win, finals contender crap is for the birds!

And all it's gotten us is to the western conference finals. Come on JR. I think you are being a little harsh. Look, I don't like the fact that we trade away our picks every year and that Clint is the only home grown and developed player on our roster, but you can't argue with Morey's success. I hope he'll take a more balanced approach going forward, but as long as we improve every year and eventually win a title, I'm okay. We're pretty damn close.

We just added Chris Paul last year, how soon people start to forget. Re-signing Paul was a huge move in its own right. If one could have hands tied and handing out $40M max contract, then having hands tied might not be so bad. LBJ and Cousins not begging to join Houston wasn't Morey's fault.

You can't have it both ways and everyone knows it. Choose your path.

I think Melo would be willing to play for the leftover MLE money once he’s bought out. Not many teams with cap space at this point. Or they can retain Luc and maybe add Nunnally.

Clint Capela will work out a deal.

Rockets are still suited to make a trade with using Ryno and/or Gordon as the money and developing young talents that teams have valued in the past. The only restriction is how much of a tax bill does Tillman wanna see

CP3, Capela, Green, MCW (for D and only D), Whoever they use the MLE on + The draft picks is a pretty succesful offseason for any team.

Lakers will probably be seen as having the biggest offseason but no one they’ve signed around Lebron is anywhere close to being on the level of talent that CP3 and Capela provide around the MVP. We are years ahead of them in building a complete team. I doubt they get it done in the time Lebron is still at his best. They will be capped out next summer after adding Kawhi/Klay and not have very many options to add quality role players into the mix.

Yeah, because the only choices are being a 40-win team with all your picks OR a 55-60 win team with no picks.

Yes, they've made the WCF twice. Daryl, for the most part, does a good job. But this is an old(er) roster, this is a roster that became expensive real quick. It'd be nice to have some youth and youth on cheap deals.

Can't have what both ways? I can't win & keep my draft picks? I guess teams like San Antonio(who's been doing it for 20+ years), Boston and Golden State are doing it all wrong!

Lol see Anderson, Ryan signing. I would say that was a bad deal that’s sabotaging their championship hopes as we speak, but other than that I agree with you!

We tried to shortcut and it would have worked in a league that didn’t have the warriors

A major move basically would involve a S&T involving Clint, EG, or most likely both.

For the elusive “3rd Star” thing to happen, we’d be giving up a massive chunk of why we won 65 freaking games last season and should’ve won the title.

Who realistically is a better choice that Clint and EG?

GSW was not winning when they amassed their talent.. it's the reason they had so many high draft picks. we all know this.

Spurs is the ONLY team to ever do it because most of their talent came in late to 2nd round

Boston fleeced a couple teams for high draft picks.

And they've kept their picks from 2015-2018 (time frame @bevo202 initially said).

    2015 1-30 Kevon Looney
    2016 1-30 Damian Jones
2016 2-38 Pat McCaw (bought from Milwaukee)
2017 1-30 Traded in S&T that brought in Iguodala
2017 2-38 Jordan Bell (bought from Chicago)
    2018 1-28 Jacob Evans

    Kept 3, bought 2, traded 1

These are picks that GSW had the luxury of keeping (and flipping) because they had a core team that was already built through high draft picks and Draymond Green. You're just adding to an already established team..

Rockets had James Harden trying to get stars around him. I don't know how Rockets were going to do that without sacrificing something. Before you say Rockets could have had Kahwi Leonard, Rockets got Chandler Parsons in the second round and was looking like a steal before his douche took over.

Possible is an understatement. The Rockets will most likely do nothing. In the vast majority of days, the Rockets don't make any kind of transactions at all!

This new math isn’t as fun. Morey needs to bust out the calculator already
