Not the worst but it's up there. It's just so obvious and corny.

I still want us to be the Houston Apollos. If they changed it to the Oilers I would be fairly excited but not overly thrilled. I was young when they left. The Texans name and brand has grown on me a little but I still think it is pretty lame. It is too corporate friendly and safe.

Man... I don't give a crap one way or another.
Don't love the Texans... but also kind of don't like the name Oilers anymore either.
Of course that said, the five final names were Bobcats, Apollos, Texans, Stallions, and Toros.
Not really a great winner in there imo.

I wish this was currently in the works.

This would be a dream scenario for me. I miss the Oilers, the Luv ya Colombia Blue, and the history. I would move from a tepid Texans fan to a rabid Oiler fan in a heartbeat.

Um maybe you didn't but I did. I followed the GM search, the coach search, the logo and uniform design process etc.A lot of people followed the formation of the franchise.

Also, do you not see the irony that you're saying Houstonians didn't follow the Texans on a message board about the Texans that was created 2 years before the team started playing?

The franchise was started at the end of 99 and this forum was started in 2000.

I don't think Clutch made the Texans forum for awhile man... not sure what you're smoking. All football related threads pre-2002 did get moved to this section in the migration, and eventually it was split up to "Texans" and "rest of NFL".

Kudos to you for following the logo/design process..... most people don't really consider that to be football.

As far as the Texans functioning as an actual football franchise, playing real football games, they didn't come into existence till 2002. Its also worth noting that their "established" year, on file with the NFL and for all NFL merchandise, is 2002.

Those are all pretty good points. It actually looks like the actual corporation that owns the team was founded in 1997 which doesn't really say anything in terms of what we're talking about.

Look out football, here we come,
    Houston Oilers, Number One.

Houston has the Oilers, the greatest football team.
We take the ball from goal to goal like no one's ever seen.
We're in the air, we're on the ground - always in control,
And when you say the Oilers, you're talking Super Bowl.

'Cause we're the Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers,
    Houston Oilers, Number One.
Yes, we're the Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers,
    Houston Oilers, Number One.

We've got the offense, we've got the defense,
We give the other team no hope.
'Cause we're the Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers,
You know we're gonna hold the rope.

Yes, we're the Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers,
    Houston Oilers, Number One.
Yes, we're the Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers,
    Houston Oilers, Number One.

'Cause we're the Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers,
Houston Oilers, Number One - Five - Seven - Eight,
We're the best from the Lone Star State!
    Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers,
    Houston Oilers, Number One.

Ah yes, the 2 times in 26 years in the NFL the Oilers were number one in their division is truly worthy of a song. Of course, when that song was written, the Oilers had never won their division and they had less success in the NFL than the Texans have had so far.....but you know how nostalgia goes. It makes us think garbage was gold.

Has there ever been anyone that ran across the logo designs for the final 3 choices for the name of the team when they were trying to decide? I've seen the alternate Texans logo, with the whole bull, and the other concepts for the Texans, I would love to see the other concepts they had for Appollos, Bobcats, or whatever the other names were. Have they ever been made public?

    I don't really care.

The Columbia blue and Oilers name were awesome though.

I would have liked for the Tennessee Volunteers or whatever they are called to not have taken the name and history in the first place.

I think I'm in a minority, but I positively detest this. It's just not attractive to me, in any way. And I loved the old Oilers branding. But something about this -- especially the logo -- is just off to me. Perhaps it's the aggressive shape, designed to look forceful and intimidating, but the majority of it is baby blue. Then it disappears on the baby-blue helmet; that white border isn't good enough.

Also, I voted in the poll but there wasn't an option that really captured how I feel:
    • Name & colors: hell no
    • History: hell yes

You don't know what your talking about. We played in a division with arguably the greatest team/dynasty in NFL history.(except for the Patriots now, I guess) If not for that, we would have won at least one Super Bowl. You have to go through the seasons that are tough, but laughable, to really appreciate the good stuff when it comes. And when it came we had a team that represented the city at home, off the field, as well on the gridiron...where we were obviously more than formidable. It brought our city together..or should I say, showed what we were really about then.
