Drop it in full length and move the exposed pasta around the pot till its all submerged. It's like 2-4 rotations and its all underwater cooking evenly like it should be in a nice little bundle.

I break it, then before I eat it I make a tic-tac-toe board with my knife.

What's a better but just as easy way to cook pasta than boiling it in a pot?

Does anyone place the pasta into the cook pot simultaneously while the water boils? Or do you put the pasta in after the water is boiled?

I thought it was common knowledge to put the pasta in the pot first and then water and bring to a boil.

My pasta doesn't fit into my pot full-length, so I have to break it, but if I had a big enough pot to cook it full-length I would. I wait until my water is boiling first before putting the pasta in.

There's a reason it was made that long, your only job is to not screw that up.

Most pasta is like 2 inches long or less (penne, fusilli, spirals etc etc). Do people honestly break it??

Poll should read: how long does it take to break your friggin penne in half

    Oh mother of god, no.

Bring water to rolling boil (1 gallon water per lb of pasta). Add 2 T salt per gallon of water. Never add oil. Add pasta. Stir. Do not cover pot. When cooked, strain immediately, do not leave in water, do not rinse with water. Toss with sauce. Eat.

If you cook it in peanut oil, you don't have to cut it.

    Probably right.

I've seen people literally burn a pan of water. You'd be surprised what people can screw up in the kitchen if they really set their mind to it.

I boil the water first. My pan is never big enough to fit the long pastas so I usually put in half and the rest will fall in eventually by themselves. I don't break the pasta, too beautiful to break.

However I cut instant noodles in half. Them Korean noodles be delish:

However if you want good instant fried noodles, go to the nearest Hong Kong Market and get this:

All correct, except do not cook pasta all the way when doing something other than a traditional red or Alfredo sauce. If you're doing a linguini w clams, pasta w grilled chicken and white wine/butter sauce, or something like that, stop the cooking about a minute short of done.

Add pasta to pan w all the goodies, then slowly finish with chicken stock or reserved pasta water. Season to taste and you will be rewarded w a glorious pasta coated w starchy sauce.
