making my point more clearly, here is the quote from espn: "Denver would expect at least one top-flight young player it can market along with salary-cap relief and multiple future first-round picks.". your proposal doen't address "at least one top-flight young player". i don't think hornets demand less than denver.

btw, i vote yes but my point is to give up all valuable pieces to make both trades feasible.

Agree, it would be the worst move since Barkley.

I'd rather trade for one, and possibly get the other in free agency. They have made it clear that they want to play together, so if we get Carmelo(a more likely trade for us at this point), Chris Paul will be more attracted to sign with us in the offseason.

Yao will be making less money because of his limited minutes, Jeffries, Brooks, and Battier are expiring(hopefully we will resign Battier). We should have the money to give CP3 what he wants.

    Quick and dirty.

    On December 15,

    Houston trades:
    filler (to NOH/DEN)

    Aaron Brooks (to NOH)
    Patrick Patterson (to NOH)
    Jared Jeffries (to NOH)
    Chuck Hayes (to NOH)
    Jermaine Taylor (to NOH)
    2012 NYK Pick (to NOH)
    2013 HOU Pick (to NOH)
Rights to Sergio Llull (to NOH)

    Jordan Hill (to DEN)
    Shane Battier (to DEN) (Buyout)
    Chase Budinger (to DEN)
    Kyle Lowry (to DEN)
    2011 NYK Swap (to DEN)
2012 LAC 2nd Round Pick (to DEN)

    Brad Miller (to CHA)

    New Orleans trades:

    Chris Paul (to HOU)
    Emeka Okafor (to HOU)

    Marco Belinelli (to DEN)

    Denver trades:
    Carmelo Anthony (to HOU)
Chris Anderson (to HOU) (Trade Exception)

    Chauncey Billups (to CHA)

    Charlotte trades:
2011 2nd Round Pick (to DEN)
    Nazr Mohammed (to DEN)

    DJ Augustin (to NOH)
    Eduardo Najera (to NOH)

    filler (to HOU/DEN)

    CP3/Ishmael Smith
    Martin/Lee
    Melo/Battier
    Scola/Okafor/Anderson
    Yao/Okafor/Anderson

Yao wouldn't even have to play 15 minutes.

Melo can say where he wants to go...if they trade him to LA Clippers...then he refuse to sign extension...then no deal will be done. So he definitely control where he wants to go.

    Too much right? How about:

Scola, Patterson, and Battier for Anthony. Only works if Patterson is good.

Brooks, Jeffries, and picks for Paul.

    Yao / Miller
    Hill / Hayes / Harris
    Carmelo / Budinger
    Martin / Lee / Taylor
    Paul / Lowry

The only way I see the Rockets getting Paul is if they give them a lot of expiring contracts. Something like Brooks, Battier, Hill, Hayes, and Jeffries for Okafor and Paul.

Why are we treating Yao as untradeable in all of these scenarios? I understand why New Orleans would angrily slam the phone down to an offer of CP3 +Okafor for Brooks/Yao/first round picks/filler---you're basically nuking the franchise, which N.O. won't do until there's no other choice (see: trade deadline 2012)

But why would the Rockets turn that down just because Yao's included? Is the thought that Yao will eventually heal to the point where he can play a full-time load at the 5 and dominate like he was starting to before Chuck broke his leg? If so, I see the point, but I thought the consensus was that Yao will never get back to being able to play 36-40 a night and that if he could play 30, we should be grateful. Is it that Alexander makes more money leveraging Yao's image and endorsements than he would from a Yao-less team that went further in the playoffs? I'm just wondering why Yao is untradeable from a Houston perspective.

Oh, and to keep with the OP, the 3 that the Rockets should be looking at to play with Paul in a hypothetical trade isn't 'Melo, it's Igoudala.

Yao Ming is indeed untradeable. We won't get fair value for Yao, Les won't get rid of his cash cow and Yao MIng makes as much salary by himself as Cp3 and Melo. What's the point of gutting the entire team just to have Melo and CP3 by themselves? Are CP3 and Melo all by themselves somehow better than Bynum+Odom+Gasol+Kobe? Or how about LBJ+Wade+Bosh?

Trading for CP3 and Melo is indeed possible, however we'll end up giving up 99% of the assets we have so far. I suppose if we ended up keeping Brooks, Yao and Scola we can make a go of it, however if DM can convince NO and Denver to part with CP3 for a collection of non-superstar players then he must really be a jedi.

    It's possible.
    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=2eun3p

Ignore the -22 wins for NO. Yao will be healthy, and they are trading one injury prone player for another. They save money in this deal even if they re-sign Yao. Denver loses Melo and still competes.

    Miller/Hayes
    Scola/Hill
    Anthony/Battier
    Martin/Lee/Taylor
    Paul/Lowry

If the Rockets re-sign Yao and Battier for cheap they will dominate.

Plus he will be clearly underpaid from next season onwards.
