It's phrased "October 1st -- Last day for a restricted free agent to accept a Qualifying Offer"

    It might actually be Monday.

It might not expire until the next business day, should it fall on a weekend. That's how the Oct 31st deadline for picking up a rookie-scale player's option year works --It doesn't expire on a weekend.

Them dang Pistons and their medical staff screwed us. We wouldn't be going through this nonsense if they would've never rescinded that freaking trade. Now this joker wants to make us pay for it by holding out hoping to land a big contract. Mind you he was freaking horrible when he did play. But he want to be paid big time for a solid month not a full season but a freaking month of solid basketball player a season ago.

Morey please let that joker walk.

So basically he's not confident in his abilities to go into camp and take the starting spot from Anderson.

So if it expires he remains a RFA, and the Rockets would just tender a new (or the same) QO to give a team another chance to offer him a contract?

    Everything would remain the same.

    • He would remain an RFA
    • He can sign with Rockets at any time
    • He can sign offer sheets from any team (until March)
    • Rockets can match any offer
The only thing that changes is he no longer can sign the QO

    And

If he holds out the entire season, Rockets can extend another QO after the season, before July 1st to make him RFA for another year.

    ^^

This basically confirms that DMO has no long term leverage

I think he does want to play in the NBA, but I feel if he gets a big offer in Spain, he may leave for good.

No way that happens for 2 reasons: his current QO isn't much lower than the biggest contracts in Europe right now and if he goes to Europe now he loses his current reputation of pre injured DMo who was 8digit salary guy. Guys who come from Europe leagues to NBA 99% of the time don't get 10M+ what I assume DMo is seeking. Only way to achieve that is by playing in NBA, playing in Euroleague doesn't prove anything.

You mean if he does not sign the QO? In that theory, the longer you wait the more money you lose, since any contract signed during the season would be prorated.

Let's wait until he actually passes on the $4.6m QO before suggesting reasons why he would do that.

    We know that...how?
A million responses based on empty guesses. Perhaps he's been offered 3/20 but wants 3/36? Is that hardball by DM the GM? Where are any facts for 'us' to be fighting over?

DMo is a must-sign IMO. Good, rotation NBA 4/5 who needs to prove health and improve/mature game. In 3-years time IMO DMo is a max-player.

We must resign DMO. Harrell is not good enough to be our backup power forward

Well....If DMo was going to accept the QO before the end of the month, he'd have accepted it already and if the Rockets had already offered him an acceptable long term deal, he'd have accepted it by now. Unless either the Rockets come to him with a long term deal that he's willing to accept of he decides to accept the QO early.....I mean what else is there?

This is what I said months ago. When nobody is paying him 'big money' his agent and him will have to consider Spain, Italy and so on, better leagues in Europe.

The DMo case smells like someone who is being forced to accept the QO due to injury risk, while being wholly unhappy about doing it. He'll have to ply his trade with us another year before searching for the bigger payday next year.

Sounds like the rockets are playing it right then. Sucks to do that to a player who the team and players are obviously fond of but that's bidness.

    Unhappy agents lol probably good.

Unhappy player, maybe he's motivated to get his....maybe he just loafs and blows it off, I don't think dmo would do that but if he plays well probably makes his exit asap. Would like to see a resolution here soon though.
