Jeremy Lin isn't even close to being the most popular NBA player in China. I understand you feel the need to expound on how much Houston will miss Lin, but you should't fabricate things in order to support it.
lol Taiwan has a population less than Texas. China has a population of 1.3 BILLION. Yao brings the Chinese sponsorship in. Taiwan is peanuts.
According to this site, the average value of all NBA franchises climbed significantly in 2013 and 2014. The Rockets increase was slightly above average(71% vs. 61% for the whole league).
and that can easily be explained by the addition of Dwight Howard adn the increased expectations that comes with having him and Harden on one team.
If anything the value of the team would be higher with Lin gone as it gave us flexibility and got rid of under performing player.
I loved Jeremy as a person, but it was maddening to watch him play basketball. He has to be in the top ten of the most erratic and frustrating players to watch in the league. Many players have bad games, but Jeremy had bad moments mixed in with good moments mixed in with worse moments all in the space of five minutes.
1. Here’s a current listing, as of August, 2014, of the most popular NBA players in mainland China. The Chinese characters at the top say “Most Popular NBA Players”. I am not sure if it will show up here, but there is a picture of Jeremy Lin as being #1, along with his name in Chinese characters, and there's a picture of Kobe Bryant being #2. (If you don't believe me, have someone translate the Chinese characters for you.) NBA球星人气榜 01 林书豪 02 科比-布莱恩特 2. And don’t think that the Lakers aren’t well aware of this situation, or how it impacts the Houston Rockets: “In 2014 Lin received 628,000 votes [for the All-Star game], fourth among Western Conference guards. But he had 150,000 more votes than James Harden, his own teammate who averaged 25 points a game. Lin had 311,000 more votes than Russell Westbrook. He had 370,000 more votes than Tony Parker. …Wearing a Lakers uniform, Lin’s Chinese popularity has already skyrocketed. Asian-Americans who look at Jeremy Lin as a heroic ceiling breaker have been reenergized. For the first time in his career Jeremy Lin will play a Christmas Day game, will be seen by millions. …Do NBA fans want to see Jeremy Lin in the All-Star game at the expense of Damien Lillard or Tony Parker? Maybe not. But Chinese fans do. Asian-Americans do. Last year when Dwight Howard wasn’t voted in as a starter, Rockets general manager Daryl Morey went on Twitter to vent. It was ironic since Twitter is the problem. …But if Morey was mad last year about Dwight Howard not being a starter imagine his outrage this year if Jeremy Lin (the player he gave away for nothing) keeps James Harden out of New York in 2015.”
By what metric do they use and is the website (that you aren't linking) any kind of credible? I don't trust Chinanet, and neither does anyone abroad living in China. The mainstay is that the NBA stars are the top jersey sellers and the most popular abroad. And the material quoted (Lin bumping Harden out of the all star game and stuff about twitter) make it seem like a gossip column.
This.....sadly the individuals who run this site do not do it in a professional manner and if something is written which is counter to their opinion they take the easy way out and ban the poster.
I think the lin fans are adamant that lin is an all star based on racial reasons and not basketball reasons . They have not used any current basketball statistics or facts. I also suspect that they think Jeremy lin can spit on a durian and it would smell like strawberries
the people who run this site are real rockets fans they won't hesitate to call time out on fans who can't handle themselves in game time
Nah, this thread and the Lin as Laker thread in the Dish serves a purpose because they contain all the persecution complex posts and Lin arguments in one place, thus keeping other threads less polluted. The OP may believe he's a star blogger now, but he's more like the creator of a cyber quarantine.
