I strongly recommend listening to the entire podcast that this clip came from. They lay out how marketing played a huge role in creating the goat image for MJ. Helps explain why people get so up in arms when people like me point out that its nonsense.

Clint Capela is on a totally different world than Bill Russell. Bill Russell is like the height of Jeff Green lmfao

It works both ways, if other people can be physical with him then he can be physical with other people as well. Lebron doesn't even have to develop a jumper or do all those fancy moves he does now because he can just bully his way into the lane. He has Kobe' athleticism along with Karl Malone's body, if everyone is allowed to get physical you think he won't dominate? Outside of centers who can stop him? Who can score on him if he can hancheck guys? Lebron is the perfect physical specimen, this era has actually shackled him instead of boosting him because he can't just bully everyone around.

"Lecramp" as you call him has already been playing for 16 years AND IS STILL considered the best player in the NBA. Outside of Kareem nobody has been more durable you do realize Jordan got drafted, got old and retired in 15 years right? Jordan's entire playing career is 1 year less than Lebron's peak, how is that for durability?

At some point all you Lebron haters just have to stfu and appreciate greatness.

That's why it's hard to compare teams from the last 5 to 10 years to teams from 20-40 years ago, because the game has changed so much, and evolved in many ways--offensive/defensive strategies are more complex now, they are way more defensive specialist and two way players now, alot more players can shoot 3s, while the athleticism gap is crazy. The training and regimen is little bit more intense now, like the NFL, it's almost a year round job, because you have to train so much more harder in the off-season. In the major sports, there are retired players and HOFs who joke about what they did in the off-season and had throw themselves back into shape around pre-season or early in the season. The off-season training starts almost a month or so after the season ends, while the rookies and other young players are in summer-league.

It's an argument like comparing Ty Cobb or Pete Rose to Ichiro. Someone made a great argument about Ichiro playing against tougher competition than Cobb, due to integrated leagues, scouting, player development, stronger/varied pitchers (who can throw fireballs), glove shape, and etc.

Nostalgia is magic and wonderous, but reality is biting and raw.

I think the NBA is sort of in the middle of the development changes. The most changes have happened in the NFL, where the gap between the players from different generations is very wide in shorter periods of time. While, in the MLB, it's there, but not quite as big. The NBA is in that moderate middle, where the more talented, skilled, and/or physically gifted players would still succeed. But, the middling guys would probably fall out.

There is actually no measure for Jordan to be GOAT, Russell and Big Shot Rob has more rings, Kareem has better stats and Dream won with less talent.

Jordan being GOAT is just the product of Nike, NBA and Looney Tunes.

That's the complicated thing about that argument, I think MJ is arguably the best NBA player ever. BUT, if I were to build a team that could contend for championships, I don't think he'd be in my top 4-6, so easily. I wouldn't take him over a Wilt/Dream/Kareem and it's arguable with Shaq, then you have Magic, Lebron, Bird, Big O, and Kobe hanging around. Some of those players could win more than MJ with less talent.

I agree the game has changed, but it changed because the players got better. It wasn't a conscious decision to change the game. Players and coaches have gradually found different/better ways to play.

And again, non of this is a shot at past eras great players... Its just how life works.

Thats why its stupid to pick one thing and say that makes someone better than someone else. Before LeBron took over, MJ was the goat. Not because of his rings, but because he was better at playing basketball than anyone else had ever been. Thats now the case for LeBron!

I'm not going to argue with someone who thinks James Worthy would be Trevor Ariza and Larry Bird would be Joe Ingles and has his sig as LeBron #1 all time with a big gap before Jordan at #2....

No he's not. Players back then were measured barefoot. He was just shy of 6'10 barefoot which makes him 6'11 in shoes. They didn't round up back then nor did they add 2-3 inches with big shoes with players wearing multiple socks to add as much as height as they can for draft stock. Damn man. You can literally go back a page and look at old man Russel whose probably lost an inch standing next to Tim Duncan.

Yep. You can tell who watched Jordan on youtube when they all keep saying he's a product of Nike and advertisements. As if ESPN didn't have LeBron on tv in high school and touting him as the next Jordan ever since and talking about him 24/7. As if LeBron hasn't been in more commercials than MJ or isn't on social media and constantly trying to be in the spot light with real world issues, etc.

I see this kind of talk all the time now. MJ came first and is still universally seen as the GOAT, so why are we haters if we think LeBron isn't better but still think he's right there behind him?

At what point will LeBron fans stop trying to tear down MJ and his peers to make LeBron look better? "LeBron haters" and yet you give us this gem "Jordan being GOAT is just the product of Nike, NBA and Looney Tunes."

The only MJ you LeBron fans know is the crying face meme. That's the era of fandom we live in. We destroy and tear down greatness and turn it into a joke.

Wilt would be Ian Mahimi today guys. I'm sorry.

Larry Bird would maybe be a slightly better Joe Ingles. I'm sorry. Just facts.

Trevor Ariza ran the break and posted up and routinely served up facials for 7 footers just like Worthy! I'm sorry.

Good idea. The facts aren't on your side so it'd be stupid to argue.
