I personally don't really care about whether if he wants to assist the anthem but what does it have to do with his religion? As far as I know the US anthem does not depict any religion in particular. And last time I checked Waiters is American. Does he have plans to join the ISIS?

Well, there was Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, who played for the Denver Nuggets in the 1990s.

It's completely within his rights to do this. It's completely within my rights to think he's a jacka$$ and to boo the hell out of him when he comes to the Toyota Center.

If you love America, you love the right to free expression.

That being said, you are free to express your opinion of his expression.

But if my $25 million dollar career was involved, I'd get with the program until I retired.

Well at least he said he'll "excuse himself" and will wait in the locker room rather than making a scene on the court in public. I think he did the right thing and announce what he is going to do so that nobody takes it as an offensive gesture.
Or maybe it's the other way around, and by him announcing it's the spit to the face lol

I think that's stupid and nothing about the anthem goes against Islam. That said, I'm quite in favor of people's right as an American to be stupid if it's not hurting anyone else so rock on, Waiters. It's really not a huge deal.

A national anthem is a kind of prayer to one's country, and nationalism is a kind of religion (the fact that so many are "offended" that he doesn't want to participate underscores this, in my view). I can understand why one would want to abstain from participating on religious grounds.

I don't understand why a man of any faith would skip our national anthem. Our anthem has nothing to do with religion but about being proud of this nation. If these people really don't love this country and won't reapect our anthem, there are other places to play basketball. Europe, China.... has our youth really lost it?
