Nope. Jeff brought in his defensively minded role players and relied heavily on the duo for offense.

You really think all those decisions were JVG's? You think JVG told them to sign Stromile Swift for the MLE?

Clever way to dodge the question. Your obsession with McGrady is ridiculous.

    Yes.

Gundy is inept when it comes to coaching offense (this is not even worth debating). He relied heavily on Yao and McGrady.

This and shortsightedness did him in in Houston.

Wait, there are people here who agree with this nonsense? What "did him in" was playing for China every off-season that he was healthy and being 7'6". Not JVG.

    *Looks at sig*

    Ah. You're one of those.

First, there is nothing normal about the size of guys like Yao Ming. Combine that with the fact that he was playing year round, injuries were bound to catch up to Yao. People of his size and stature were not created to play such a physically demanding sport. He was a good player and it's unfortunate that his injuries caught up to him, but it was bound to happen at some point or another.

From the MIT Sports Conference thread. There were quotes from Van Gundy that'd indicate they were more intent to ride Yao heavy as a low post presense, rather than loosening him back.

I saw that as "damning" at first. But seeing it now, its kinda hard to knock them for that approach. The goal of big centers is develop them into effective low post scorers cuz that helps YOU WIN.

What they should have dialed back on was Yao's MINUTES. He should have been a 30 mpg player tops. Rik Smits in his prime averaged 30 mpg. Illgauskas not much more. Even Roy Hibbert averages 29 mpg

It's been so long I think we forget how he nimble he was for someone his size.

    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/CUnnWoRWvdA?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Defenders fronting him became an issue because he was so slow.

Yeah, you definitely don't want your 7'6 center to post up or anything.

Better to plant him on the 3-point line and wait for the outlet pass.
