    Darko is viewed as lazy and as a bit of a head case in European basketball circles. I don't see an extremely old school coach like Obradovic having interest in him.

    No. Just about every coach in Europe speaks English.


    The offensive system that the Spurs use is largely copied from Obradovic's system at Panathinaikos. Not entirely, but a lot of it. Popovich was taught a lot of the plays he uses by Obradovic.

    The difference is that Obradovic uses more pick and roll than Popovich does.

    Ex-Yugoslavian, but especially Serbian, coaches are one of the best in the world (Popovich was born to Croatian-Serbian parents). The problem with most of them is that they are terrible at speaking English.
    For example, Duško Vujošević would take this Rockets team to the Finals as he's one of the best in the world in developing youngsters, but he never made a career outside of Partizan because he doesn't speak a lick of English.


    Trust me, Željko Obradović is as good as Gregg Popovich. Here's the video of his legendary press conference after a 75-53 win over Prokom in 2009:

    Panathinaikos went on to win the Euroleague that season. :grin:

    Didn't know his name but I have always liked the style of play from Panathinaikos.

    Take in on faith that a coach I've never heard of that's never been hired by the NBA before is as good as one of the greatest coaches in the history of the game because you say so and have a cool press conference video to support your argument?

    Seems rational.

    He has 8 Euroleague titles with 4 different clubs. Željko Obradović is a brand in Europe, everyone knows who he is and that his name stands for greatness.

    i agree too. obradovic is a pure serbian, where as pop is some diluted american hybrid.

    before this thread it never dawned on me that pop is a great coach because of his serbian parentage.
