According to the Chicago Tribune's Full-Court Press blog, Bulls rookie Derrick Rose missed Monday's practice after he needed 10 stitches to close a gash suffered at home while — you're not going to believe this one — slicing an apple in bed. Amazing.

"It was a silly incident," Rose said. "I was cutting up some food and I laid on a knife getting lazy in bed. I went to go get a bottle of water, came back, forgot the knife was there, then sat down and sliced my arm."

Rose is expected to play Tuesday night against the Knicks at the United Center, which is good news, but it begs the question: why is Rose cutting Red Delicious apples with a machete? That seems excessive.

Derrick Rose wore a large gauze bandage on his left forearm and a
    sheepish smile on his face.

Rose missed Monday’s practice after he needed 10 stitches to close a
gash suffered when he said he rolled onto a knife while eating an apple
    in bed.

"It was a silly incident," Rose said. "I was cutting up some food and I
laid on a knife getting lazy in bed. I went to go get a bottle of
water, came back, forgot the knife was there, then sat down and sliced
    my arm.

"I panicked when it first happened and called my trainer. It was
painful but I should be alright."

Athletic trainer Fred Tedeschi drove Rose to Highland Park Hospital
shortly after 8 a.m., where doctors closed the wound.

"It was a large wound, but they healed it up," Rose said. "I'm good. I
could’ve practiced today, but they told me to wait until tomorrow. Most
    likely, I’m going to play."

Rose said he would have the stitches in his arm for 10-14 days.

"It’s just an unfortunate thing, but he’ll be fine," coach Vinny Del
Negro said. "He could’ve practiced today but more precautionary to let
him relax a little after that incident and get some rest. Thank
goodness it’s not serious. It could’ve been a lot worse."

Yeah, it's Monta Ellis all over again!

....it's a cut on the arm and looks like he won't miss any games...

lol I never said it was covering up something serious.

The point is, you could at least believe Ellis' lie. And although Radmonovich's lie was stupid, you could see it happening.

Who the hell cuts an apple in bed, leaves the knife, and then sits on it or whatever and slices his arm enough for 10 stitches. Pretty funny.

He couldn't come up with a better story than that. He could have made it a Christmas story about some fat white guy with a white beard wearing a red suit breaking into his crib and he got cut in a knife fight with the dude.

I don't get why people are being so skeptical. What do you think REALLY happened?

    I believe this one.

And I never believed Monta Ellis for a second..

(probably random bias at play here from reading about these guys and hearing them speak and stuff)

Remember what happened to Jay Willimas. We'll this one isn't near as serious, but it was about the same time in the season, when Jay Willimas injured himself.

I recall, Jay had a pretty good rookie season until that point. Again this is not close to being as serious as Jay's accident.

Weird. I would expect this type of injury from a baseball player but not a basketball player.

Now the NBA owners will write contracts that prohibit motorcycle riding and apple eating! :D
