This guy was supposed to be our third scorer last year, now he aint even in the nba Miami Herald "Derek Anderson and Shandon Anderson, the only players from the championship team who did not return this season, will get rings but did not attend Tuesday's ceremony. Derek Anderson, who relinquished a $2.5 million salary to take a $600,000 buyout from Miami, told the Heat he would be overseas signing with a team this week."
Can someone explain why he accepts the buyout and takes far less money? Can he just say "if you want to cut me, pay me in full"?
I think it's probably because his enormous ego thinks he still can be the main man at his age and with the condition his body is in. If he were to stay at Miami, he'd be no better than the 10th man at best, and that's a far stretch. So if he really does still want to be the main man, why not take the paycut and go to some team overseas where he can still dominate the inferior level of competition?
Same reason why Latrell turned down a $30 million extension and Bonzi held out for a $10 mill offer that never came. They're completely out of touch with the reality of their value. Derek also wanted a starting job. Evan
No one from NBA going to Europe ever dominated inferior level of competition. Enormous ego is one's who thinks he has all the facts and knowledge to judge whether someone can play anywhere or is he done. You probably wouldn't know that, but actually some people want to do things they like to do for as many years as possible.
Derek Anderson just wants to play bball. He doesnt want to sit on the bench and get pay. This guy is rich already and will get pay by Blazers for this season. And I havent heard he wants a starting job now. Where do u get the news?
yeah stop hating on the guy. this is the kind of move that players should be respected for. he could have wallowed on the heat bench and rode the wave of their success but he cares more about playing ball than being famous. im more sceptical of guys who are content never getting playing time, as long as they are getting paid.
A washed-up Bob McAdoo did. Vinnie Del Negro was a superstar in Italy for a few years in between stints as an NBA journeyman. I'm sure there are others, I don't feel like looking them up, but suffice it to say it has happened.
