The Jazz have the tie breaker against Portland. I think they try to beat Denver and hope Portland loses to Sacramento. Then they will move up to 4 and have home court in the first round.

So basically if we want a GSW WCF we just need to win out

Oh thanks, i actually thought the Jazz were like two games behind Portland, didn't really realize they were just one game behind them...so yeah, they have all the reasons to try to beat Denver, that's pretty great for us.

You are annoyed by a team doing what they believe is best for themselves and their fans? You must be completely anhedonic.

Take it as a compliment to our team that Denver, if this is true, believe their easiest route is to avoid the Rockets at all costs. Good for them. I do not blame them, smart management.
I am happy we have a team others fear, that we have a real chance at a championship!

I just noticed the Clippers play @Warriors then vs Utah. They also lose the tie breaker against OKC. So they will probably fall to 8th even if we beat OKC.

I look at seeding this way: starting two series at home would lead to an easier path to sweep. Two sweeps means more rest.

    So seeding does matter.

    Good.

Maybe the Rockets will learn from this and handle business early in the season

Putting aside that I'm a Rockets fan, as just a fan of basketball/the NBA in general, this is the really annoying part for me. I understand why they're doing it-which team wouldn't want to ensure that it advances as far as possible? But a Warriors/Nuggets or Rockets/Nuggets WCF would just be a terribly anticlimactic way to end the West playoffs.

so this entire thread is about this? " In order to do that Denver needs Portland to win out, they need Houston to lose a game and the Nuggets themselves have to take care of business in their final two contests."

I wonder who OKC wants to play more, the Nuggets or us?

They would absolutely gamble the 2nd seed for a chance to play a depleted Portland team in the second round. I don't think they like their chances against Houston with or without home court.

It was a shocker at first to be honest. And I agree mostly with what have been discussed.

But to think of it Portland was favorite to beat a full squad nuggets anyway at home. It is not like Portland was an inferior to the Nuggets.

Well as long as westbrook plays there is still a chance okc loses.

Clippers have the tiebreaker right now over OKC. They went 2-2 against each other and currently have a slightly better conference record. However, assuming the Clippers lose to the Warriors and Jazz in their last 2 games, OKC would need to lose to Minnesota today and Houston on Tuesday for the Clips to maintain their tiebreaker (the next tiebreaker is record against West playoff teams which OKC wins easily). If the Clips win one of those games, OKC would only need to lose one game against Min/Hou to lose the tiebreaker. If the Clips win both, they own the tiebreaker no matter what OKC does.

Spurs own the tiebreaker over both teams.
