In thinking about player development. Coach Silas is a great coach when he has someone caring for his defense. These lopsided games are more about our effort and our Culture. We are not rewarding or incentivizing hard work for 48 minute. Our Coach is too soft. The problem is we have lost our way. These young guys would do better if Silas was an Offensive coach Mario Ellie was on the bench but our head coach needs to be Sam Cassel.

Yup, they are clueless on defense - no one is helping the helper....Wood was stepping up to stop the drive, and none of our wings were taking his man, giving up layup and dunk after dunk.

And our perimeter D was bad too, the Mavs were on fire, but a lot of that is because no one was guarding them as they shot.

The defense on this team is the worst I have ever seen in the NBA - some of it is effort, or the wrong type of effort, and others are just our guys are clueless on where to be.

80 points to that team in the first half was embarassing.

Evidence that Sam Cassell would be any better than Silas? Y’all just tossing out names at this point

    They want him because he’s a Rockets Legend™. :D

“There’s a reason Silas went 20 years without getting a job.”

Yeah and Cassell is going on 12. (Assistant since 2009)

Ball movement might be better if players started cutting, Brooks cuts, Mathews cuts, Tate cuts - we could really use everyone moving....to shake it up a bit.

Not gonna clown you but it wouldn't matter who coaching this team... They're clueless and offensively oriented players... You need some dogs that want to be better .. I've yet to see anyone animated because of a missed defensive assignment...
Only time I've seen anyone show some accountability is after a made basket, and they do the customary pointing yelling "get yo man" ... lol

Lol. Silas is just not NBA head coach material no matter what.

How can one be worse? Like a headless chicken would probably produce the same NBA record.

Yeah, I agree. The numbers in this game are deplorable, but they are tracking consistently over the last few games.
    • 43 points allowed in the first quarter
    • 34 assists allowed on 49 made baskets (54.4% Maverick's shooting for the game)
    • The Mavericks went 1-10 from 3 in the 4th quarter. Up to that point, they were 16-28 (57%)
The Rockets players and coaches will have to decide if there is any collective will to do anything different.

Out of training camp, 9 wins seemed like a high bar, but this group has avoided the stigma of the worst overall record in NBA history. I guess the next landmark is avoiding the worse record in franchise history. That should be doable if they win 4 more games in the next 40 plus.

Why not simplify things for our guards or just Green. A big sign outside his locker, all in glitter: "DON'T HELP INSIDE AT ALL COST!!111!!"
I would rather him get beat on a drive than loafing around the key and leaving the shooter wide open. Lin got benched for that. Nobody talked to hairy Fatty about that and he went another 5 seasons with those terrible habits on defense. It wasnt until cp3 got here that Harden toned it down a bit.

Just not helping on defense would go a long way.

No one wants your help, breh!

On the ball movement, that's something they can do and have shown they can.

They should hire Jeff van Gundy to try and teach defense to this group.
His famous dark circles would grow until he looks like a raccoon.

    Hornychick, Diop?

I would not even hire them as assistants.

    Pretty weak coaching staff.

Establishing a defensive identity takes time. Personnel.

A common theme throughout the season is the absolute lack of effort/urgency/care on defense. Whichever one you want to choose.

How many times have we watched Sengun challenge the initial attack - stop it - only for the opposition to have their easiest score of the game because no other Rocket decided to get involved in the play.

The team really is not a fun team to watch when you've got so many me-first players who don't give a damn about the team.

Young guards are notoriously bad defensively. No coach in the league could have this group playing even decent defense. Gordon and Wood simply don't care about playing defense right now, they're both in cruise control until they get traded. Mathews will never be a good defensive player, at best he's a guy who plays decent team defense in a good scheme.

The Rockets aren't trying to win right now, and all the players know it. Not that I think Silas is a good coach, just that there's too many things working against him when it comes to getting this group to play defense. A contending team would have relegated quite a few of these guys to the bench for their effort, but we're not in a position to do that.

    That's nonsense of cours.e

Wood is a brutally bad point of attack defender. He's light years behind Capela or even Nene.

He is by far the slowest man to switch or close out, and he offers no rim protection as a trade off

Watch these clips of Wood - he's losing his man, getting caught in between, not closing - he sucks!

You're just making up garbage to try to justify your negative prophecy. Wood is as bad or worss in his play pn defense as the Rockets 19 year olds and he's been in the league for what, 7 years now?
