That's what I was going to say, but I was even going to take it a step further. I contend it was wise for him to opt in last year. He was going to be traded to a rental, which he clearly doesn't want. He doesn't want to be stuck on a rental. His only option to keep his ability to sign a max contract and go where he wanted at that point was to opt in and give the Magic more chance to get him where he wanted to go. I have no idea what DM's offer was last year, but one could potentially argue the party at mistake was the Magic, for letting him opt in and not trading him anyway. They're the ones continuously pushing back their ultimate rebuild. What's more, who wouldn't do what Dwight has done? A lot of people like to point to Durant. And I agree, he is a refreshingly "good-guy" superstar athlete. But let's not pretend like he's stuck on the Vancouver Grizzlies or something. I honestly think one of Dwights motivating factors is that he doesn't want to come to Houston and live in the shadows of Hakeem. I get the feeling he wants to go to a franchise and immediately become its greatest center.

I enjoyed the read, jopatmc, but you know Dwight will have to google Bobby Fischer, right? As will a large percentage of the people here who take the time to read your OP. Maturity? Real maturity would be to honor his contract... give his skills to his team and teammates for the next year... with his heart. THAT would be the best for his future. To go along with his "created" trade possibility would only be displaying a continuing immaturity; owning the "mistake" does not mean accepting a trade. Mistakes that haven't actually happened can be corrected, just like in the movie, "It's a Wonderful Life." Real maturity would embrace the last year of his contract with Orlando with no regrets When others see that kind of character, THEN they can say he has matured. And for those who covet having Dwight become a Rocket, waiting another season gives the you talent we have now to blossom. That, too, would be the best way to change his mind about what being in Houston might offer. Me? I still think there could be at least 1, if not more, "stars" on this current roster, just waiting to bloom. Did anyone expect Chandler Parsons to play like he did? A player's attitude is so important.
