Sports Illustrated - Historic World Series Home Run Rate may be Result of Slicker Baseballs
    https://www.si.com/mlb/2017/10/29/w...-verlander-yu-darvish-ken-giles-kenley-jansen

This was originally in the "do you trust Ken Giles" thread, but since this is a separate topic, I thought it deserved its own thread.

The articles basically state that the baseballs used in the playoffs are too slick to throw a slider and are also the reason for the larger number of home-runs versus previous world series'.

The slicker balls effected Ken Giles and Yu Darvish more since they rely on and a larger percentage of their pitches are sliders.

If the article above is correct, which it appears to be since both the Dodgers and Astros confirm what is in the article, it means that any pitcher that relies on a slider should not be on the mound throwing.

Unconscionable that MLB let this happen.

I don't follow the Astros as closely as the Rockets, but was wondering what other pitchers on the Astros and Dodgers would this effect?

What pitchers throw a larger percentage of sliders?

Do we need to break out the asterisk on this World Series?

How is it effecting sliders and not curves ?

Both pitches require a good grip and wrist snap .

Darvish's pitches were definitely flat , but there could be more than the baseball influencing that .

    No excuse for Kenny G

TBH, would rather watch a game dominated by big hitting rather than good pitching. Last night's game was unbelievable.

This will hurt Giles career more than Darvish. Plus, there's just no denying that Giles has sucked long before these slick balls

Slick balls aside, I haven't seen a team with balls this big since 94 Rockets were totin' them around with a wheelbarrow.

If we win? Yes. Jordan wasn't playing.

Curves are all about the ring finger on the seems.

Slider grips vary. Some pitchers grip the slider like a curve; some do not.

I don't give a **** what he did in the regular season. Even then, he wasn't superb by any means. He has been abysmal in the post season.

He has actually been trash in the playoffs since he got here.

He has sucked lately but was really quite good in the regular season.

I guess you (like many) just started to follow this team.

He was a top 5 closer in the regular season. No way I put him in during the WS in a save situation especially with the slick baseballs
