that was a rediculous amount of talent for tejada. i mean, does the steroid suspicion surrounding tejada not worry anybody else?
Preseason games start this weekend. That means football games every week from here until the Pro Bowl.
I don't think putting Oswalt's name out there to see what we can get is a terrible idea. Obviously all the recent press isn't going to make Roy happy, but his trade value is probably higher now than it will ever be. I can definately see Roy signing with a team like Atlanta, which is closer to his home state of Mississippi. If we can get good value for him I wouldn't mind dealing him. We have good young pitching prospects to shore up the rotation in the futrue, although relying on that much young pitching will be huge risk.
If we don't believe we can re-sign Oswalt, then he should be traded next season, not this season. The only way he should be traded also is in a situation where everyone knows he is available and teams are able to bid against each other over an extended period of time.
I don't want to trade Oswalt. But if we don't believe we can re-sign him, we should absolutely trade him now as opposed to next season. His value will diminish significantly if he is viewed as a rental player as opposed to now, when he'd have a season-and-a-half under club control for us or whoever gets him in this hypothetical.
I agree, although there's no way we trade him now. We'd have absolutely no chance of making the playoffs (though we don't have much of a chance anyway) and it'd be a terrible PR move. A more realistic time to deal Roy would be this winter, but that's only if we can get a lot in return and we don't think we have a good shot too re-sign him.
Dammit ... I was just going to post that I think we should get in on the phillies fire sale (the GM admitted they won't contend in 07) and raid their bullpen. Cormier was one of the guys I really wanted. Haven't heard anything here in Philly about him being available, but maybe we can get Flash Gordon for cheap?
I doubt that would ever happen. If so I do not care if we just have Soriano for 2 months thats a steal.
Haha believe me I know.... I think its getting to the point where the Nats have no other options. They are losing leverage by the minute and Soriano will more then likely not sign back with them.
