You're welcome. Hmm. Works fine for me. Have you tried to maybe access the podcast via Jonah Keri's website?
Very interesting, thanks for sharing. DM called Houston a top 5 destination for players to play here.
If this podcast delivers its promess then this is one of the best Morey interviews out there. I'd say Chicago is ahead of us as well. With all the drama going on in Miami and if they end up imploding this season I might dare say we would be more atractive than them.
Good find. Jonah Keri actually had some good things to add to the conversation about baseball analytics too.
The most interesting quote from Morey was when he talked about how there is far more uncertainty about who will win the championship in other sports. In baseball and football and soccer, the superior team does not always win, even a wild card team can catch fire and win a title. In basketball, there are so many possessions that a superior team will always win out by simple law of averages. Scoring in the NBA is basically nickel and dime. Whereas in the NFL and MLB and Soccer, there are much fewer scoring chances and so an inferior team can beat the law of averages and win occasionally. The 6-8 seeds have zero chance to go all the way, that's not the case in every other sport. Morey said this is bad for the league, part of the attraction of sports is unpredictability.
It's interesting that Morey says coach's tactics have a limited impact on a team winning or losing, especially with the better teams. So that means all the folks nitpicking Adelman's gametime decisions got it wrong?
We're not a team winning 25 to 30 games either, which is where Morey says a coach's tactics can impact a team's winning record up to 5 games. So for a 40 to 45 win team, the impact would be, say 2 or 3 games. Not as much as what fans might attribute to the coach, for better and for worse.
The intro music was obnoxious, but other than that a great interview. Just wish we could be fortunate enough to swing a deal soon for a big-name player.
Amazing podcast, great insight. It's so awesome that Daryl does indepth interviews like this, and he comes across as such a down to earth, intelligent dude. The ultimate GM to have a beer with, IMO. Chik Fil A ftw. Thanks again for sharing.
