I would think that the Rockets prefer House because they want 3&D guys around Harden and Paul. House is the better defender and he's a much better 3 point shooter. In general, House is just a much more efficient offensive player and the Rockets are all about efficiency. Hezonja really doesn't shoot many 3s. House shoots them at a much higher volume while still shooting a much better percentage. Last year, Herzonja shot 27.6% on a total of 152 3-point attempts. Meanwhile, House shot 41.6% on 178 3-point attempts. You are correct that House benefits from getting open looks created by Harden. What's his primary role on offense with the Rockets? Yep, hitting open 3s created by Harden. He's very good at doing exactly what the Rockets need him to do. Herzonja wasn't very good on open 3s last season. On Open 3 point shots, Herzonja shot 32.1% on 56 atttempts. House shot 44.6% on 65 attempts. On Wide-Open 3 point shots, Herzonja shot 26% on 77 attempts. House shot 41.7% on 103 attempts. In all cases, House shoots a much higher volume of 3s at a much better percentage. Houston chose the guy with the elite efficiency ( 64% TS% ) over the inefficient Herzonja ( TS% of 49.7%. ). House is just a better fit in what the Rockets want from a wing player.
Smh, u can’t possibly be crying over Mario fcking Hezonja. He sucks. U act like we gave House a 3/18 deal...
He's so good that the Knicks gave him DNP's even when he was perfectly healthy and even when they were facing some of the worst competition in the league. He's so good that he managed to get DNP's despite being able to play four different spots on the floor. But yeah sure, OP is totally right.
gtfoh, Hezonja has not met expectations in any single season in the NBA in 4 years and not even in short stints. House exceeded expectations in short stints in Phoenix and Houston. House is an excellent catch and shoot player and a serviceable defender with decent size despite his short arms. More likely to improve too, he showed improvement throughout the regular season until the playoffs scared the sh*t out of him.
Super Mario sucks. I’m not super high on house like some but I do think he can be a 12 pts 6 rebound guy with above average D moving forward. He’ll be better this coming season because he’s secure now and will have all The benefits of training camp and also just knowing he’s part of the team moving forward. I think for under 4m a year If he can give us what we even got last season that it’s a bargain Guy shot over 40% on 3s and was making over 2 a game that’s pretty elite if he can keep it up. His rebounding and slashing were nice and while he has the tools to be a very good defender he needs to get a lot better on that end. Over all getting him and rivers back for around 6m a year combined is a huge win tho.
Posting here just to come back and relive this thread in about 3 years. I’m assuming House will be an elite player akin to the Harden vs *random player threads that appeared 5 years ago.
Who brags about shooting 32% from 3 for their career? He shot 41% fg and 28% from 3 last year. That is not bad. That’s terrible. He couldn’t even stay on the court for more than 21 minutes on a rebuilding Knicks team. House shot 47% from the field and 42% from 3. He actually played more mpg than Mario on a playoff team. House was extremely efficient in the limited games he played and looked liked a natural fit. I’d expect those numbers to drop off a bit in a larger role next year but even then he’s shown he’s a superior player compared to Mario. He struggled in the playoffs but that’s excusable for a first timer imo as it’s valuable experience that can’t be gained without actually being thrown out there. For anyone else that complains about House’s struggles in the playoffs allow me to remind you of the initials AB. Brooks clearly wasn’t ready his first time and struggled mightily against the Jazz but the next year it was like night and day. He was one of our playoff hero’s in helping us get out of the First round for the first time in over a decade and nearly upsetting the Lakers in the 2nd round. Not saying House will have that type of turnaround but I’m confident he’ll be much better his next go around. Anyways, this was was after eating Fish and chips alive, dropping 34 and tying up the series at 2-2. Good times.
Mario has far more upside than House jr. But he hasn't realized it yet. Started to a little last year. Hezonja wouldn't have signed a long term deal. He's looking to break out and get paid. And he thinks Portland is his opportunity. I think it was a bad choice for him. Should have went to a lottery team that will let him ball his butt off.
Mario has been on bad teams. He has way more upside and at vet min Id take him all day. House just locking up cap space. Could have offered full MLE to a difference maker
Look at the market bro. Teams just busting money on mediocrity. House's contract is a great value. He's a solid top 7 rotation piece for us. And we've got him locked down for at least the duration of the Harden/CP3 era. But I will add....if we had signed him in 2017 when he was ready...to a sliver of the existing MLE we had at that time...we would be in the money big time on him now.
