It's all about the spacing.... our spacing was really bad last game...on the other hand, Suns always has great floor spacing, you never see them crowd together.
SPACING, SPACING, SPACING....I mean, c'mon it's so obvious. When you've got 2 or 3 guys covering one person UNDER THE BASKET....that leaves at least one guy wide open somewhere if you have proper spacing. Since we can't stop Phoenix's offense anyway, you must start Novak or Juwan (anyone who can hit an outside shot) at the PF position. If they want to double or triple Yao, kick it to the wide open guy on the perimeter who's been left wide open and let them drain shots all night long. VG needs to concede that we need a different lineup when we go against this special team.
They need to do this in the regular season, too. Shorten preseason and stretch the regular season out more... Back on topic, if one of the better teams in the league basically gift wraps me a win every time they came around, I'd be nice to them too.
Not a ridiculous comment. Maybe his meaning is, if he was the headcoach of the ROX, then ROX will expose biggest threats to the Suns, unfortunately it is JVG's ROX. We are not as good as Phoenix, but such humiliating loss is unacceptable.
Many NBA experts believe Rox's playing style is the natural enemy of Suns. Go figure. I think sooner later after Rox gets a tempo-controlling PG, Rox will win consistently against the Suns.
That requires your people on the outside to hit the shots... they weren't hitting them against the Suns. They are plenty spaced.. heck I don't think Battier moves from that corner spot once he makes his first cut. Head is the same way. But if you aren't shooting well they can sag into the middle and clog it up. Obviously, starting Novak worked well, lets try that again?? If the Rockets had made a few more outside shots, then the defense would have had to pull out from Yao to defend the line. That was the Suns strategy, force us to perform on the exterior and rush the offense. Our biggest problem at this point is, we live and die behind the three point line. You see the difference in the Nets game and this one. Shane hit 4 three pointers... you can't leave him to cover Yao. Chuck is setting screens for Mac and rolling for easy buckets, so do you help on Mac and recover or sag into Yao and let Tmac shoot the easy open jumper. In this particular case we didn't hit those easy open jumpers so they kept collapsing. If we settle the offense more often in the half court set, pass the ball around better and wait for the screens instead of jacking up desperation jumpshots and rebounded better we DO cause a huge problem for a run and gun team like the Suns.
You guys didn't hear the full quote. After D'antoni said that ashton kucher came out and told the media guys they were punked and him and D'antoni had a good laugh.
You are forgetting how athletic Phoenix is. They don't double and triple until the ball is down in the post. What they basically do is hang out in an area, playing zone, until the ball comes into the zone, then they swarm it and overplay the perimeter. Just having shooters out there ain't gonna help. Novak and Juwan are TOAST on the other end. You've got to have guys out there that will turn down the rushed perimeter jumper in exchange for driving to the rim and that have the athleticism to defend on the other end. You set up the jumper with your interior play.
