you can bet that if someone without health insurance gets sick they won’t want to go to a hospital and get quarantined and pay a two week hospital stay. This exposes the massive flaw in a for profit health insurance industry
I recon people won't want to miss wages too. This exposed a massive flaw with getting a deadly illness...
A massive flaw in our country not having a paid leave program. No universal healthcare combined with no paid leave ='s Americans eat sh*t and die.
let in less illegals and less work visas and companies would offer bettee benefits like that to keep workers... we have little value if the labor market is saturated.
First confirmed case of Coronavirus in Las Vegas. 50-yr old patient is at a VA hospital. Some planned conventions are being cancelled. Local business will get hurt, followed by layoffs or a cut down in hours. It's not coincidence the Feds made an emergency 50 basis interest rate cut. Expect another cut within weeks cause they are probably expecting economic contraction leading to a recession, likely global. This is no good my friends. The only salvation here is warmer weather, but we are still weeks away.
(Correction) Coronavirus suspected but not confirmed yet by the CDC. It didn't matter, after people heard about this, they made a run on food, supplies and especially water at Sam's and Costco, pre-apocalypitical style. Only thing remaining is local channels going off the air and zombies. SMDH...
Sure you can advocate for that... you would still have to mandate paid leave days, would still have to have some form of a government system to ensure universal comprehensive coverage for everybody. All that competition and labor value can increase the leave days over the minimum mandate, it can throw-in healthcare benefits above the ensured comprehensive coverage, like free tit jobs for your wife and endless massages. The minimums have to be mandated or else they will not be universally met. This is the reality for all countries that provide universal comprehensive healthcare to 100% of its citizens. Do you hate the idea of public health insurance and public healthcare? Fine go for the wonky swiss system of mandated private insurance and private healthcare - that gets subsidized for the poor and working-class (sound familiar?). I don't like that system personally but hey at least you would be talking about something that's real, that you can point to that works. This pure capitalist Milton Friedman philosophy dream you have in your head is just garbage that would not, and has never been, shown to work. Use the benefits of capitalism within a mixed system, I totally agree, but don't fry your brain on it.
Funny the stories change over time. trump says something, then denies saying it, and then the admin spins out a different explanation.
We have a 3% unemployment rate with still more companies hiring so the labor market isn't saturated. If we want to offer more leave and better benefits without driving up inflation and we need flexibility in the work force so companies aren't losing productivity when they give people leave. This is critical for timesensitive jobs like construction. It's too late for Andrew Yang but this is one area where UBI might help. If we have a flexible labor force UBI might fill in the gaps for people taking leave and meeting unexpected expenses like medical bills and loss of income from quarentine.
So you agree with me? People who are infected are disincentivized to get tested and risk getting quarantined. Not only will it run up a big hospital bill, but they will not be able to work. In a system where you had health care and a safety net, people wouldn't have to fear testing positive for a virus. Remember that 80% of people who are infected don't even realize they are sick.
