What the **** is wrong with these people? Angry man screams and threatens shoppers at Florida Costco after mask request A man at was filmed Monday yelling and threatening shoppers at a Costco in Fort Myers, Florida, reportedly after an elderly woman asked him why he wasn't wearing a mask. Clad in a "Running the world since 1776" tee shirt, the man puffs up his chest, balls his fists and yells "I FEEL THREATENED!" while belligerently advancing on the person filming. The clip posted to social media shows the man accusing the shoppers of "harassing" him at the Gulf Coast Town Center warehouse. "I'm not harassing you," the person filming replies, "you're coming close to me." "I feel threatened!" the man shouts, clenching his fists and advancing toward the camera. "Back up! Threaten me again! Back the **** up, put your ****ing phone down." The person filming stops at this point. The man was "escorted out of the store" by Costco staff, according to the person who posted the video to Twitter. 'To give Costco the credit, they escorted him out and made me wait inside and monitored him until he left and then they sent someone with me to the car to make sure I'm okay.' Posters on social media speculated that the man yelling "I feel threatened!", despite being the aggressor, is an attempt to pre-emtively invoke Florida's "stand your ground" law. This law allows the use of deadly force if one is threatened or attacked in public and imposes no duty to retreat. Florida has no mask mandate, but Fort Myers does.
I have no doubt the man's specific language is to game the incident. If no legally at least knowing that him being videoed will get out to a wider audience. That said it's pretty hard to claim you're being threatened when you're the one advancing at someone. That's technically not even Stand Your Ground but given how hazy many of these incidents are Stand Your Ground now could mean a lot of things.
This is how people think today. Somebody grabs a one-off video of some lunatic who's having a bad day (guy in the red shirt), plasters it on the internet via twitter, and then it makes its way through the liberal (or conservative) echo chambers. It's really sad that people form opinions of large groups of people based on this type of behavior. It removes the deeper, balanced thinking that is required, because it plays to people's biases and reinforces the narrative they want to hear. It works on both sides of the political spectrum, by the way - I'm not claiming this is a liberal only thing. It's a sad state, though, and I believe it's very bad for our country. My recommendation is that people get out of their echo chambers, interact with a diverse group of people, and form their own views. Don't let some lunatic on the internet in your echo chamber bias you.
I'm seriously considering joining Costco. They treat their employees well and appear to run off the mask-less idiots.
A thoughtful, well balanced, no-bomb-throwing comment. I could get use to the new, improved @bigtexxx .
This was my first, albeit maybe pollyannaish, response as well. I can very well imagine this guy being out of work since March, out of money, probably having a job his entire adult life, hard worker, and now struggling to provide for his family. 3 months past on-the-edge.
I wish an angry mob of parents would find DeSantis’ Education Commissioner and give him a piece of their mind. Ron DeSantis and those in his administration deserve to face criminal charges for their pathetic actions during the pandemic.
yep he can't even afford to buy a mask for himself. someone make a gofundme for this poor lunatic having a bad day - @bigtexxx
