I mentioned before how they seem to be developing a good relationship and someone pointed out their GM worked with Morey in Boston.
The possibility of a larger than normal increase in the cap for next season should also make you cognizant of players coming into free agency such as Rubio, Dragic, Kanter, Faried, etc. with smaller cap holds, whose birds rights could be retained while also signing another max free agent.
There's some speculation in there, but it definitely makes sense. Waiting is our friend. We don't have to trade for anyone right now, and the price tag should get lower as we get closer to the trade deadline.
In the CBA, how is the QO treated effective 1 July? Does the team still have Bird rights? What is the cap hold for the QO? Does anything change if the player accepts a trade to another team? Thanks...x...
Players don't lose Bird rights unless renounced. The QO doesn't affect Bird Rights. It merely makes the player an RFA. There is no cap hold on a QO. The percentage of previous salary for unrenounced free agents is their cap hold. That depends upon what type of free agent they are. And the amount they count towards team salary is the greater of that or the QO. As for your first question, "how is the QO treated effective 1 July?" Not sure what you are asking. If a QO is not submitted to the player by July 1st, he becomes a unrestricted free agent. If offered, the QO expires Oct 1st, but the team can extend it to March 1st. If it expires, the player remains an RFA.
Greg Monroe's situation, as example. Next July - - what will his status be? He'll be UFA but will Detroit have Bird rights? What will Detroit's cap hold be until GMonroe signs with a team going forward? If Monroe accepts a trade to another team do any of these answers change? Thanks.
Yes Detroit will have his bird rights. However since he will only be on a one year contract, his bird rights are not transferable in a trade.
You're overly complicating this. There is no longer a QO on Monroe. He signed it, so he's now under contract. QO's are a standing offer for a one-yr guaranteed contract offered to a player to make them a restricted free agent. If he signs it, then he is now under contract for one yr, so that is his hit to their cap/team salary. Just like any other contract, that adds another consecutive yr with Detroit to his tenure, so he remains a Full Bird.
plowman, codman, here anything about rudy fernandez? ie, did the rockets try to go after him earlier in free agency? on rosas' twitter he is a one of his more recent follows.
Patience young grasshopper. Wait for Bledsoe domino to fall, pick up a potential superstar PG, THEN seek out a complimentary PF (not necessarily an all star) w/TPE. Market is bullish on stud PFs right now, cannot even buy high.
