Good. We've been clamoring for it for months. Dwight needs to be DeAndre Jordan(albeit better at the foul line). Pick-and-roll, alleyoops, rebounding, defending the paint, blocking shots. That's it. Stop trying to be Dream, cuz that ain't never gonna happen. He can get a few more plays run for him when Harden goes to the bench, but he should never be the focal point on offense with the starters.
I think it is good news. He wont be as athletic for sure but if he is at 90% of last year with consistent explosiveness and a higher bbiq for the way the team needs to play, i think this is great. This assumes the reports of his explosiveness returning to early season form. I say be a wealthy mans Joey Dorsey but will believe it when i see it.
"No structural damage. " "Hardly any cartilage wear." "Most explosive I've been all season" But they feel he won't have the athleticism?? Cyberx, Are they just lying?
It is reality that his athleticism has and will decline. Nothing in cyberx's post implied that it would be a steep immediate decline
Oh boy, if Dwight fully embraces the role of a defenive lynchpin and a rebound gobbler we are going to tear it up come playoff time.
Well this is the first step. I'm very encouraged just to hear a report that Dwight is being told plainly that he's going to have to adjust the new offense, not the other way around.
So, McHale told Dwight, "You have to adjust to what we are now; we're not going to make you the go-to guy" etc etc. And Dwight is studying game film. Which is well and good. It's how the team should be run. In any case, there's no time to bring in Hakeem and work on the post moves and this, that, and the other thing.... How-EV-uh, When the season is over, will it be understood that this is the way it's going to be from now on? Will Dwight accept the new role as a long-term thing? Or will he get his back up and start looking down the road? Yeah, cyberx. Translation! "Dwight's getting older, he's not the spry pup he once was"? "Dwight's act is getting old, he's not Hakeem or Shaq, he needs to know he's Super-Dikembe and embrace it"? "Dwight has more illegitimate kids than Shawn Kemp, he needs to be more careful"?
Even a diminished Dwight is still one of the best centers in the league, and undoubtably makes us much more formidable. Just keep him out as long as necessary, then unleash
If Dwight does become a more efficient and smart player as a result of the adjustments, his absence could turn out to be quite the blessing in the skies.
Put on a condom for the first time and make sure his salary isn't split more than 8 ways for the next decade.
