Typically, when 2 starting players emerge at the same position, teams can only afford to keep one as there will come a time when BOTH gets paid or one has to go via trades. D-Mo and T-Jones will both get paid starter money if their production proves consistent. ONE of them will go. It's simply inevitability. Personally, I believe it will be D-Mo.
Does Smith return? If DMo and TJo are valued closely inside the hallowed halls of DM the GMdom then which of the two brings back the greater haul? I believe there is a dynamic flux in this '4' question. If my opinion mattered, and it doesn't, I'd say to keep DMo. Or both.
Agreed that much of it depends on if we can keep Smith. If we can't, there is a chance that Morey may keep both given the cap bump we are all expecting to see. That said, traditionally when a team has 2 emerging players that are both capable of starting and both are looking to command starter money soon, you trade one of them as opposed to losing them for nothing when they sign with another team for big money. Now, if we do get Smith on the MLE, then absolutely we will be dumping one of them.
Rockets staff has been pretty happy that Dwight has really taken time to watch lots of film while he has been out... They think he is finally learning that he needs to use more brains and less athleticism, which they feel he wont have. McHale told Dwight last week that he is going to have to find a way to fit back into the offense that is running now. That the team is NOT going to adjust their game to accommodate Dwight. Hence, the more film sessions etc.
Will see IF Dwight buys in to the new plan or scrubs it right away when things do not go well. I am hoping Dwight does and the team can make a serious run in the playoffs.
Even a lesser Dwight is way more athleticism than we have now. He was grabbing 11 boards and shutting down the paint while injured
