True, but it's still a sunk cost at this point. Might as well lose an underwater contract seeing as we'll be in rebuilding mode soon with a new GM and possibly coach.

The Bears don't seem to be in fire sale mode anymore, but no way they would've traded Forte for Cushing. Are players ever even traded this late into the season?

    He's north of 30. I don't know that I'd make him untouchable.

They would have been fine with Mohammed... probably even better.

Well Mohammed is no longer on the team. Plus Mike was only better than Cushing in coverage. Cushing is horrible in coverage. But on blitzes and tackling, Cushing is way better.

I agree he is overpaid for his production but who were they supposed to sign to replace him?

    No, he's not.

The only thing Cushing can still do is chase a runner who's inexplicably running side to side (instead of north-south).

Cushing is also one of this team's worst tacklers now.... a big reason why teams can just run up the middle at will.

Who knows? Could have signed someone or signed someone with the ten picks they wasted trading up

Nope. You are greatly overstating the rest of the linebackers and safeties on this team. Teams run up the middle because Wilfork is getting pushed back and Cushing has to take on linemen. He is much slower and should either be a backup or play with a much faster LB.

What does survive mean in this case? Survive as in keep 11 players on the field? If you're asking who they should've gotten instead, plenty of ILBs, young ILBs, move around every year.

I mean he is by far the best ILB on this team. Then consider that Dent and McKinney are injured. So you're looking at just Bullough and Tuggle. Max has not looked good in regular season action.
