The Vince Carter thread got me thinking note I am leaving out younger players like Lebron, Durant etc. Lock for HOF Shaq Kobe Duncan Very very good chance Steve Nash Dirk Kevin Garnett 50/50 Paul Pierce Ray Allen Vince Carter (I know I'm biased)
HOF really isn't hard to get into.. if a player got any type of award like a championship,mvp,defensive/offensive player, have been an all-star..ect ur a lock for HOF..
Yao Ming? He's not an "all time great" but he's had some very good legitimate All Star seasons and is a pioneer, being the first Asian basketball player of significance in the NBA. Injury has, most likely, cut his career short, but Bill Walton was even more injury ravaged (his injury history makes Yao look like Karl Malone). Though Bill did win a couple of trophies and Yao only went into the 2nd round.
Yeah, the reason I left Yao Ming out is because he is one of those players if he gets in I can totally see the reason why (cultural impact, pioneer etc.), But I can also see a whole side of the argument of why he doesn't belong in there (totally hampered by injuries, no rings, not enough playoff success etc.)
I think he's right. Yao has single-handedly opened up the NBA to a market of more than a billion people in China. He will likely make the HOF for that.
Everyone on your list is a lock except for Vince who I think has a very very good chance. If Nique can get in then I think Vince should too when his career is said and done.
Basketball Reference HOF Probabilities Nash has two MVP's and while he doesn't have a ring (as of today) nor a Finals appearance (as of today), the way he impacted his team on the offensive end was incredible. On the other side, he peaked late in his career and was a defensive liability. He should be in. KG is in the HOF. A ring. MVP. DPOY. No way he misses it. Dirk is more intriguing. He has one MVP. One Finals appearance. He is consistently good. I think he is in. Vince Carter? No. No way. He just doesn't have anything to push him over. He has one Rookie of the Year award. And has two All NBA appearances (one in second team, one in third). He was never in the top 5 in MVP at any given year (Only got to 10 once). He has scored 20k points but he hasn't done nothing really great. He fits the mold of someone who was really good for a few years but never great. Hell, T-Mac accomplished more with less years than Carter has in terms on individual success. I just don't see him in the HOF. There are other players to consider. Jason Kidd. Manu (International success counts), Pau Gasol, LBJ, Wade, etc...
allen is defenitly a lock since he is about to pass reggie miller on all time threes. what about kidd? billups?
Kidd is 2nd all time assists, how can he not be a lock. Not sure about Billups, he did win the Finals MVP right....
Man, this thread title confused me. I was all like, "HOLY CRAP, current players got shot at the Hall of Fame?! THREAT LEVEL ORANGE!!" Guess I'm just a little paranoid for some reason.
LOL, I read it the same way although I quickly figured out what the op was trying to say here.
