I wanna be the Spurs. Create a team culture. Rely on your own hand-picked players. I can only think of a few significant FAs the Spurs have signed over the years; even the addition of LaMarcus Aldridge didn't deliver the title we pretty much expected. The Spurs have won five championships since the Rockets' last championship in 1995: 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2014. They also lost in the finals in 2013. Yeah they got lucky and scooped Tim Duncan away in the lotter from the Boston Celtics as I recall. Maybe this whole post dies on the vine without Duncan on the Spurs. I'd rather have a home grown team that plays good team ball that we can be proud of than to sell our souls in these desperate attempts to put a great team together for a couple of seasons. For me to love the Rockets, they don't have to win a championship. Be heady. Play hard. Make us proud. I'm not buying that every team who did not win the championship this year just wasted a year of their existence. Overcoming the setbacks is what makes winning sweet.
Nah, I've been a Rocket fan since they came to Houston. My dad took me to Delmar Fieldhouse to watch Elvin Hays hit turnaround jumpers from the freethrow line. When the Rockets move to Houston, I was thrilled. When the traded The Big E, I wrote him a sad letter of goodbye. I knew where he lived about two miles from my folks. I went to, I think, the first exhibition game at Astrohall. I was courtside when they played the Celtics in the NBA finals at Hofheinz and I was at the Summit when they passed over Harold Minor for some cat named Robert Horry. But I've lived out of state for 40 years now and my strongest connection to the team is this site so I may be fading. I watch the Rox when I can but that is seldome anymore. I'm just not drinking the KoolAid that only championships matter.
Let me know when you find a group of great players that are willing to take pay cuts in this day and age..
Then if they ever win a championship with a non drafted core don't go to the parade. If you like lovable losers the Texans play not too far from downtown.
Where in his post that says he wouldn't be happy if the Rockets won? Don't ever mock a long time fan like that, youngling. Just because he has a different priorities as a fan doesn't mean he is any less of a Rockets supporter than you.
Dang, my memory is warping. Must have been a regular season game against the Celtics. I went with my dad and a customer of his who was in town from New England and was a big Celtics fan
