Barret takes Weathers deep, 3-1 Fish still.

Weathers gets out of the inning w/o further damage. Still Six innings for the Cubbies left, so don't get to cocky.

    Easly double to left

Leicester warming in cubs BP. Looks like it is going to be a long evening for Clemens and the cubs.

Leicester in to relieve the dead arm Clement.

All of this while the sweep hungry and well rested Pirates await.

    Come on Fish!

Get a couple more runs out of this inning while you got em on the ropes ... Lets hope the Cubs bullpen gets run down today and the Pirates can take advantage over the next couple of days.

They probably have enough young call-ups so that their bullpen would not get worn out if this game got out of hand.

That being said, whatever the Marlins can do to give David "the man" Weathers more support and cushion, the better.

    This game is huge.

EDIT: he's the only guy on the Marlins infield who plays bad defense... and the ball finds him. C'mon David!

It's so frustrating seeing an easy double play ball turn into no outs at all. Can't afford that David

    It is Damian Easley show.

The 73 years old man hunch is working again but unfortunately it might be be over for them.

I do not understand why David Weathers was pulled after just throwing 70 pitches and allowing 2 hits over 5 innings. If nothing else I felt David could have given them another inning.

    David "Fair" Weathers

    5 innings pitched
    2 hits allowed
    1 earned run
    6 strikeouts

I guess they took him out just in the nick of time. What are the Cubs smoking?

I second that, but I guess they figured they didn't want to push him too hard after coming out of the bullpen.

Lets just say right now Guillermo Mota is looking mighty fine in a Marlins uniform.

Weathers is a reliever. The last start he made was in 1998. Before the game, they were saying they wanted to get 50 quality pitches from him. This is probably the most he's thrown in 3 or 4 years, so that's why he was taken out. He also has a history of melt downs.
