Agreed, the spin here in Dallas is that they don't have much flexibility but them overpaying for Parsons is overblown since Dirk has taken such a pay cut. Still don't know why Dirk took such a huge pay cut. Pretty crazy for him to do that to get Parsons of all people.

The way I look at it, Dirk has the 3yr. 46 mil deal and Parsons has the 3yr. 25 mil deal and it looks a lot more palatable. The problem is, they will not be able to trade Parsons ever so this is the team they are stuck with and I think they are okay with that.

Cuban is usually pretty responsive on social media. Someone should tweet him in and get him to clarify his hypocrisy

Cuban is a bad person, but he is a good owner for the Dallas people. As for him screwing Morey, both of them are losers in this process. The Mavs overpay Parsons, this will come to affect their cap sooner or later, the rockets lost a player without getting anything back, this is a sickness, specially lost to the team I hate the most.

Tracy McGrady came to Texas in his prime Remii. I think Moses Malone came here in his prime as well.

The more I think about this, the smarter Cuban looks. Not for overpaying for Parsons, although if Parsons improves that may look like a good deal. Cuban knows that this thing about Morey treating players like assets is out there in the media. And even though he treats players in the same exact way* (as does every other GM), he makes sure all the free agents, current AND future, have that little bug in their heads saying, "Morey sees me as a commodity while Cuban sees me as a person."

NBA players are generally not known for their intelligence, and this kind of media manipulation could pay dividends for the Mavs down the road.

    * Seriously, how is underpaying Dirk by 50% NOT treating him like an asset that he can use to improve the overall team?

Cuban seems to do a lot of retroactive commentary on how he knew X was going to happen. Except when he f**ks up and wastes three years of Dirk's remaining career gambling for Dwight Howard and Deron Williams. Then it was a total shock and those guys clearly just don't want to win.

In this case, he's taking a very simple (and true) fact [that RFA dictates an overpay is the only real way to land a guy without a match] and somehow imagining himself a chessmaster.

And I don't mind the guy too much; I like an owner with passion. But it's pretty tacky to directly smack-talk another organization even when it's justified, and Chandler Parsons at James Harden money is far from "self-evidently justified" before we see him play.

guys i dislike the mavs as much as the next person but Cuban is partly right.. We have a reputation of treating players as nothing but assets. Morey/Les come across as calculating and emotionless. That's not a good rep to have among players. I'm sure if you did a poll across the NBA on who they would rather play for.. Cuban or Morey.. that cuban would win by a landslide. He has a rep for looking after his players and at the same time he's one of their biggest fans.

Morey on the other hand has managed to piss of Asik, Lin, Lowry (mchale had a part in this one) Parsons, and to a certain extent Dragic. If you go back further you have Barkley and we sure handled Olajuwon's (our franchises best player in history) later years very poorly.

Hopefully we can negotiate our players while they still under contract. The we will let the market didctate your contract is bull****. Dragic and Parsons gone.

Lowry liked Morey and has had said as much. He enjoyed hanging out with him and pouring over stats.

I have no idea if Dragic has any beef with Morey but I really doubt it.

Perception is reality though and you are right that the perception is that Morey cares less about his players than Cuban. It's weird though when the facts are that Cuban has routinely been a guy who ships players out, breaks up teams, lets guys go over money, etc.

yup perception is reality.. Morey has a reputation now of being just a number cruncher and everyone is a asset.. He has come out and said so himself. . NBA players are still people and those soft skills matter just as much. Most people just want to be treated with respect and dignity..

With that said I found this piece of news quite ironic :)

    Mavs voice Lewis's contract :)
