I have bad credit and I'm trying to get that fixed. I am an idiot when it comes to things like this so I'm hoping you guys can point me in the right direction. I finally got off my lazy ass and looked up my credit report.

The stuff on there are things like a cable box and modem i forgot to turn in when i moved, and like old phone bills from when i moved and didn't get my mail forwarded. Nothing really big, just a lot of small amounts I owe and the total is like $1800.

There is also one from a hospital bill but that should have been taken care of by my insurance. That is like $800 of the $1800.

Should I contact my now former employer and have them look into the hospital bill or am I SOL since I don't work there anymore?

Also, if I go ahead and just pay everything, that stuff will still show up on my report right? And if so, for how long?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    read this board

    http://www.creditboards.com/forums/

whatever you do, do NOT just outright pay those default bills off. you need to write the companies that are handling the charge offs. you want them to take it off your credit report once you pay it, but you need to have them put it in writing. it'll be a long process.

and i highly doubt your current company is going to pay for a hospital bill they weren't responsible for.

thanks for the advice...........but no, not current employer, former employer. I had full medical coverage at the time of my stay in the hospital, but some reason it never got paid by them. I don't work there anymore, this was about 4 years ago.

You need to do something about that, son. Debt-free is the way to be.
