Was fairly disappointed to see the CPAC banned American Atheists from attending. Not a good way to expand the tent. Edit: Apparently they did the same thing to homosexual GOP advocacy groups. Sucks.
HowardKurtz @HowardKurtz 9m Ted Cruz tells CPAC we should abolish the IRS. Great applause line, but doesn't somebody have to collect the taxes?
Looks like it's going to be a rockin' good time! A Divided Conservative Movement Tries To Come Together For CPAC The list of speakers at 2014’s CPAC conference shows an increasingly fractured conservative movement with Sarah Palin and Ted Cruz headlining while John Boehner is blackballed.
The Tea Party wet dream of a flat tax pretty much makes the IRS needless, I'm guessing. Flat tax is also dumb and counterproductive, but that's beside the point.
Just having a national consumption tax and getting rid of income taxes on the national level would be perfect. States can figure out how they collect taxes on a case by case basis. Food, baby formula and other non taxed items still are not taxed. It would basically be a tax on the wealthy. Win Win for everyone
Yea not really. Let's say you tax 10% on a car. How is it fair to the middle class family having to pay the same amount as the super rich? The idea is that the rich spend more, so it will tax them more. Won't the increase in the price of goods discourage spending? At least this is the argument with minimum wage.
You have it backwards. Lower and middle class spend all of their income, so all would be taxed (except food). Wealthy spend only a small percentage of their income (except Patrick Ewing). They would only be taxed on that small amount.
Not quite, but living in a free society means allowing others to do things you think are morally wrong. There are ways to respond to such behavior short of a gun to their head. The left pretends to value freedom, but the moment you make a choice to do something they don't approve of, they want to ban it. Discriminating against gays is actually legal in many states (sexual orientation doesn't fall under many public accomodation laws), but you never hear of anyone putting a "no gays allowed" sign in their store window.
What a stupid thing to say. How about we legalize murder? No? Why? Because it infringes someone else's freedom? Oh yea, that's right. Conservatives have zero argument in this whole thing.
