    Yes it is.

First, being black in Chicago is terrible. It is an incredibly segregated city with massive slums that house black people that grow up in one of the worst educational centers in the country and with extreme violence. Racism in Chicago is rampant, especially when it comes to those slum areas. The caliber of medical care is terrible.

Second, the slums in Chicago are so large and concentrated that there is essentially no diversity. There are issues in Chicago in the slums where some residents believe that COVID19 is a white disease. ER doctors in these areas have stated this is a common statement they are hearing.

Third, the reports from the CPD are that in these slums there is virtually no social distancing occurring.

Forth, many people in these areas are used to receiving substandard care so they will at times forego an ER visit.

Fifth the majority of people in these areas of Chicago have jobs that do not allow them to stay home and they live paycheck to paycheck.

The situation in Chicago is simply unacceptable and has been for 100 years. The majority of Chicago is safer than almost anywhere else in first world countries. There is tremendous wealth and opportunities, excellent medical care and schools.... but the city has essentially forced black people into large slums and they are treated like animals, worse than anywhere I have been in the USA. They (and some groups of Hispanics) are basically segregated from the rest of Chicago and forgotten about. The paper reports the shootings (all in 3-4 different slums) and residents basically say “Oh that’s over in Garfield Park, not here”.

Yeah... the truth is no one in Chicago gives a **** about black people that live in the massive ghettos the city has set up consistently over the last 100 years... and yes blacks are pushed into these slums.

Being a black person in Chicago is overall just terrible... terrible schooling, few jobs, lots of crime, lots of violence... end up working a blue collar job outside the neighborhood for little money and then come home shootings, robberies, home break ins and raise a family in that... that is a GOOD outcome... other is end up poorly educated in a gang and killed or prison or drug addict.

COVID-19: on average only 6% of actual SARS-CoV-2 infections detected worldwide
Actual number of infections may already have reached several tens of millions

The number of confirmed cases for the novel coronavirus disease COVID-19 officially issued by countries and widely commented on by national and international media outlets dramatically understates the true number of infections, a recent report from the University of Göttingen suggests. Dr Christian Bommer and Professor Sebastian Vollmer from Göttingen University have used estimates of COVID-19 mortality and time until death from a recent study published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases to test the quality of official case records. Their data shows that countries have only discovered on average about 6% of coronavirus infections and the true number of infected people worldwide may already have reached several tens of millions.

Insufficient and delayed testing may explain why some European countries, such as Italy and Spain, are experiencing much higher casualty numbers (relative to reported confirmed cases) than Germany, which has detected an estimated 15.6% of infections compared to only 3.5% in Italy or 1.7% in Spain. Detection rates are even lower in the United States (1.6%) and the United Kingdom (1.2%) – two countries that have received widespread criticism from public health experts for their delayed response to the pandemic.

In sharp contrast to this, South Korea appears to have discovered almost half of all its SARS-CoV-2 infections. The authors estimate that on 31 March 2020, Germany had 460,000 infections. Based on the same method, they calculate that the United States had more than ten million, Spain more than five million, Italy around three million and the United Kingdom around two million infections. On the same day the Johns Hopkins University reported that globally there were less than 900,000 confirmed cases, meaning that the vast majority of infections were undetected.

Sebastian Vollmer, Professor of Development Economics at the University of Göttingen, says, “These results mean that governments and policy-makers need to exercise extreme caution when interpreting case numbers for planning purposes. Such extreme differences in the amount and quality of testing carried out in different countries mean that official case records are largely uninformative and do not provide helpful information.” Christian Bommer adds: “Major improvements in the ability of countries to detect new infections and contain the virus are urgently needed.”

Is there any evidence that China intentionally lied? You mean other than the fact the CCP has lied about just about everything else?

There were the extremely high number of urns. There was the fact the CCP sent home the journalists covering the epidemic when it became bad in China... there are the intelligence briefings/findings of multiple countries. Also this isn’t a real stretch, as China has the least trusted and reliable medical studies as they often lie and falsify findings.

If you really want to believe that the CCP didn’t purposely lie, that is your choice but there is a lot of evidence.

As for the numbers in other nations, yes there is some manipulation for multiple reasons and part of it is that the diagnosis varies from state to state. For example in NYC someone that dies at home and wasn’t tested for COVID19 but had the symptoms doesn’t have a COD of COVID19. It causes the total cases of death to be under reported.. however I am familiar with autopsies in the USA and the standard operating procedure is to not give a COD without some physical evidence to back it up. So there is no plan to under report the numbers in that particular case.

The situation with Germany, I cannot speak on. They have a better reputation than China (and arguably the USA) but I am open to any possible conclusion.

The issue with China is that they purposely falsified and lied about their knowledge of the virus, the death toll and other nations relied upon those numbers to formulate their plans. While I am not defending the CCP’s lying, I also do not entirely buy that the rest of the world believed the Chinese numbers, as their reputation was well established.

In Taiwan, they only had 5 deaths. And in HK 4 deaths. Both have freedom of speech, so China's number may not be that off.

More DnD material, but they have plenty of reasons to lie.

Mostly because the economy will flatten (at best) this year, and if they continue to look dumb and slow footed, it will cause a host of domestic problems they can't silence, censor, bribe, firewall, boycott, strong arm, whine, disappear, or torture away.

As for whether their numbers are true, we shall see. Everyone wants to get outside and back to work.

Bringing Wuhan down to yellow alert will be something everyone is paying attention to.

You still have not provided concrete evidence that China intentionally and maliciously faked their data. Saying that China lied in the past so they must also be lying in the present is not evidence. Using that logic, you could apply that to the US (we never found those WMDs in Iraq did we?) and many other Western governments. The urns story revolved around a single data point that several thousand urns were delivered to a single crematorium over a few days. Then the media made the assumption and conclusion that there are 7 crematoriums in Wuhan so assuming all seven crematoriums must have been running at full capacity for several days if not weeks, and Wuhan must be hiding 50K+ deaths. Is it possible that is what happened? Yes. But it is also speculation, not fact, at this point. Also, in a city as big as NYC, there would be a few hundred people dying every day normally regardless of COVID19, so if everything was locked down for 8-10 weeks, you'd naturally see a big spike in cremations due to the backlog of deaths.

I don't think China's numbers are accurate. I don't think any country's numbers are accurate. Everyone has inaccurate numbers either through limited testing, testing errors, different testing methodologies, etc. What is most important is the shape of the curves and that they're flattening. Who knows if China actually has zero new COVID19 cases nowadays but it's hard to dispute that they have succeeded in flattening their curve, and we should be focusing on flattening ours instead of pointing fingers. Lastly, if China totally faked their numbers, their curve would look different wouldn't it? Or maybe they just made up totally fake numbers and somehow got lucky and totally predicted how the future curves would look in Italy and the US.

uh oh this virus is much more contagious than previously thought.

In January the estimation was around 1.5 -2 .
    In February 2.5 - 3
    In March 3- 3.5

Now..the minimum estimation is 3.8 and the latest studies speak of a 5.8 RO!

Because it seems that most people get infected by asymptomatic carriers, or from people who are still having very mild symptoms.

What a sneaky successful virus. 5.8 RO..this makes it one of the most contagious virus that have struck humanity.
I dont see any way to contain this beast without a vaccine.

I don't care to debate the ways a dictatorship like the CCP could intentionally LIE and hide the truth.

I care to debate how scientifically it is impossible for Wuhan to have had only a couple of thousands deaths.

    a) Circumstances that lead to the virus being already widespread in Wuhan , one of the most densely populated cities in the world, already by January
    b) Lack of knowledge on the transmission and contagiousness of the virus
    c) Lack of reliable detection tools
    d) Lack of enough resources (ventilators, hospitals, icu beds, healthcare workers)
    e) Lack of knowledge on potential drugs/pharmaceutical treatment

So with all that it makes it simply impossible that the number of deaths were only so low, SCIENTIFICALLY.

The curve of Wuhan shouldn't be compared to other countries' because after the initial spread and the first peak, the containment measures taken were much more strict.
But that would do nothing to change the initial (1, 1.5 month) death toll.

Now with the latest information we are able to SAVE many more people that are ending up in ICU than China would have in January.

Oh I forgot to mention the good news.
And I dont' want to jinx it but..now according to our Health Ministry there are seeing tremendously good results with anti-IL 6

So now there is the first official confirmation and not only some results from isolated cases.
The studies will come they said in the end of the month.

But - and again I dont' want to jinx it- we are already seeing the results. 10% of people in the ICU are leaving- alive each day now here.
    :) :) :)

We may not have found a cure for the virus, but at least there is a weapon to fight the cytocine storms.

^That's promising news. I posted an article about Favipiravir. Reads like fapviper...

    Updated results are no joke.
    https://www.newsweek.com/russia-favipiravir-coronavirus-treatment-japan-china-1496517
Russia is set to test the antiviral drug Favipiravir as a treatment for COVID-19 following "excellent results" in China. The first batch of the drug is expected to arrive in a week, the state-run Tass news agency reported Tuesday.

Favipiravir is also being tested in other countries as a potential treatment against the novel coronavirus, including in China and the Middle East.

The drug is developed by the Fujifilm Toyama Chemical company in Japan. It has previously been found to be effective against a number of RNA viruses, including influenza, West Nile virus, foot and mouth disease and yellow fever. Japan approved its manufacture and sale in 2014.

"The drug is to be considered for use only when there is an outbreak of novel or re-emerging influenza virus infections in which other influenza antiviral drugs are either not effective or insufficiently effective, and the Japanese government decides to use the drug as a countermeasure against such influenza viruses," a statement from Fujifilm said.

China began testing Favipiravir as a potential coronavirus treatment in February. On March 15, it approved its use in clinical trials for the treatment of COVID-19. At the time, Zhang Xinmin, head of the China National Center for Biotechnology Department, told the state-run China Daily that the drug had shown promising results in treating coronavirus patients, with mild side effects reported.

According to NHK, tests were carried out in the Chinese cities of Wuhan and Shenzhen. In trials involving 320 patients, people who were given Favipiravir were found to test negative for the virus around four days after testing positive for coronavirus, compared to 11 days for those who were not given the drug. X-rays also appeared to show over 90 percent of patients given Favipiravir experienced improvements in their lung condition, compared to 62 percent without the drug.

In Japan, scientists are racing to carry out clinical trials to assess Favipiravir for the treatment of COVID-19. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe recently announced production of the drug is to be boosted, stating that the government is planning to designate Favipiravir—also known as Avigan—as the country's standard treatment for coronavirus, Wired reports.

Last Tuesday, Fujifilm announced the start of a phase III clinical trial for COVID-19 and that it was ramping up production. "Fujifilm...now plans to accelerate the production of Avigan through cooperation with domestic and overseas partners for responding to the needs of the Japanese government and other countries," it said in a statement.

Japan's Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi has also announced the country will provide Favipiravir for free to 20 countries planning to use it as a COVID-19 treatment, Japan Times reports. "We will work with interested countries to expand clinical research on Avigan internationally," he is quoted as saying. These countries include Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Turkey.

In Russia, Kirill Dmitriev, chief executive officer of the Russian Direct Investment Fund—the nation's sovereign wealth fund—said the government was working with ChemRar Group to invest in Favipiravir.

"Our colleagues in China have showed us the positive results Favipiravir has displayed in the treatment of coronavirus patients," he said in a statement. "This [joint venture] will ensure a sufficient quantity of the drug to treat Russia's infected people, while Favipiravir will also be delivered to foreign markets."

In an interview with Russia's Channel One, Dmitriev added: "Together with the ChemRar Group, we are investing into a medicine that showed excellent results in China, and the first batch will arrive in one week."

The U.S. is also believed to have expressed interest in Favipiravir. According to a report in Politico at the end of March, the Trump administration is pushing for the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) to grant emergency authorization for its use. An FDA spokesperson told Politico they could not comment on whether the agency would issue an emergency use authorization for the drug.
    Massachusetts is beginning trials

It’s a bit more complicated. The game is constantly fluids vs no fluids. The cardiopulmonary system and the kidneys are sometimes in huge opposition. A lot of patients with really bad resp distress have a low threshold because the more fluids you give, the more likely you are to have pulmonary edema since the hearts of most of these folks don’t work too well. Debating that is what I literally spent all of yesterday doing.

the kidney damage isn’t due to decreased perfusion, it’s become clear that it’s from micro emboli being thrown and causing renal damage. Patients are hypercoaguable and clot very easily. The same way you throw a tiny clot and get a stroke/heart attack is what’s going on
