Why is the number of shots relevant?

 

16 shots would have been fine given that it was 2 cops shooting initially from what I've read, provided it was all at one time. You can fire 10 rounds out of a semi-automatic pistol in like 3 seconds if you really wanted to. The issue is the 2nd round of shooting that happened later for no reason whatsoever.

 

And that alone makes it murder.then to go and delete video this officer isn't the only one that should be on trial.

 

Well, only the one officer should be on trial for murder, but those who tried to cover it up are accessories to that murder after the fact and should be tried for that along with obstruction of justice and possibly a host of other crimes.

 

What f-cking police chase are you going on about? The video footage is shot from the vehicle that followed directly behind the one Van Dyke was driving.

 

You'd have to be really angry or crazy to be out in that weather protesting.

 

Why was the perp running, and what happened such that several police were pursuing him as the video started?

 

The kid was already wounded and on the ground. If you're a cop and properly trained, you shouldn't need an additional 10+ shots to disarm a wounded kid laying on the ground.

 

If there is a risk he can still pull a gun and shoot a cop, then possibly there could be a reason.

My understanding is that this single officer shot the victim 16 times, including the second round of shooting.

 

They're responding to call about someone breaking car windows in front of a Burger King.

 

Van Dyke was one of eight officers at the scene and started shooting just six seconds after he left his patrol car from 15 feet away. The video shows the teenager walking away from the officer when the first bullets were fired.

 

Police had been following the teen after reports that a citizen was "holding a male (later identified as McDonald) who the citizen had caught breaking into trucks and stealing radios," according to the documents.

 

I am not defending Van Dyke or the behavior of the police force following this shooting.

 

Never ceases to amaze me the people some posters will stick their cyber-necks out to defend.

 

I think only one person is defending this.

I don't yet have a position on this. I approach any situation with an open mind, then collect the relevant facts, then decide. Others should learn to do this and leave the bias out.

 

What happened before the video was taken? We need answers, folks. How did the perp spend his afternoon before going on his late night PCP binge? Did he have a negative thought toward a police officer. If so, poor judgment imo. Probably influenced his actions that night.

And everybody knows PCP turns you into a superhuman capable of withstanding multiple gunshots while on the ground. This clearly shows premeditation for a confrontation with the law.

Where is the respect for our officers that you can't simply give them an old-fashioned tip-of-the-New-Era, a hearty "Yessir" and a downward glance? Police your own, libs.
