It's a massive improvement over last season, would rather that we get an entire rebranding though.

Zach Lowe mentions our new court in his "10 Things I Like and Don't Like." One interesting tidbit:

"One thing they didn't consider: scrapping that "R" logo, with those gorgeous jets of smoke dripping from the bottom, in favor of a more literal representation of a rocket. The days of garish space-aged cartoons appear to be over, even though the Rockets know fans are lukewarm on their current mark. "We are not changing the logo," Lopez said."

Weird how the single tone floor was an accident, and they meant to keep the two toned floor. Putting aside the fact that the single tone looks a lot better, how does something like that even happen? It got all the way to the point of them laying down the floor and someone was like "crap?"

"Luke warm" is a very friendly way to categorize Rocket's fan's opinion of the current logo.

Got to hand it to Lowe for finding ways to keep mentioning Houston. Cause their court design shouldn't be anywhere near the top of any lists, even if it is an improvement.

The article mentions they started "toying" with various designs last fall. Sure, current is an improvement, but they spent 6 months and this is what they got? It still sucks. There was a mention of having a lot more black on the baseline - that might have looked great. But they're stuck on this "Red Nation" thing. That'd be an actual thing if they had real strong, local, regional or national presence. There certainly is no "red strong" nationally or regionally. Locally in Houston its known by Rockets fans, but not like something everyone hangs onto... like the Lakers purple and gold for example.

Rockets is such a strong and awesome team name, brand identifier, etc. And they've done nothing but disservice to it for decades now.
