"The Rockets are also attempting to retain free agent guard Jon Barry and center Dikembe Mutombo. Barry provided a good spark off the bench, but there are plenty of possible replacements. Free agent point guards Jeff McInnis (Cavaliers), Dan Dickau (Hornets), Earl Watson (Grizzlies) and Damon Stoudamire (Blazers) have stirred some interest.

But the Rockets may look for a potential diamond in the rough. Former Duke guard Jay Williams is back playing two years after serious leg injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident. The Miami Heat and Rockets are two teams taking a look at the former lottery pick. Another reclamation project is former BYU combo guard Travis Hansen, who led his Euro League team deep in the playoffs. Hansen has a similar skill set to Barry."

Doesn't sound serious, but hey, it's news, right? The bit about Hansen is interesting. Sounds like a typical 3-pt. specialist.

I think any team would take a risk on Williams if the price is cheap enough. The guy was a stud and if could regain any bit of that talent he had and play to 80% of that he would be a great guard to have.

I think this is a rehash of old news. I've heard it all before.

The Bulls declined Williams, but Rockets will have to deal with Bill Duffy (who also happens to be Yao's agent) next year. The benefactor didn't have nice things to say about the dealings with him when the Suns signed Nash (Duffy is also Nash's agent).

I would love to pick up Jay Williams. The #1 and #2 of the draft? That would be such a steal. I'm sure he has a long ways to go, but I think bringing in Williams for workouts and letting him use our facilities throughout this season would be very helpful.

Jay Will. is not that great of a shooter, but he has T.J. Ford like speed and driving ability. Something that may suite a backup PG.

Jason Williams of Duke....low risk, high reward. The Rockets should very much look into him.

Hell No! Yeah Yeah Yeah, Jay Williams, leader of Blue Devils. Wonderful, but the dude rode on a motorcyle one day which lead to his demise. I'd rather take Darko Milicic and let him play point guard then let Jay Williams run my team. He was good once before, but that was once before. Long live Vivid Video. Out.

This is from a paper that runs in a non-NBA city. I'm not sure what insight this writer has into anything. I suspect that he's just rehashed whatever was already available on-line.

There are very few sources I trust. This is not one of them.

At the right price with a non-guaranteed contract, maybe Jay Williams is worth a try. But has everyone forgotten how poorly he played before the accident? I think it's unlikely this guy will help anyone very much and we don't need another warm body in the backcourt. We need quality players who can improve our top 7-8 player rotation and Jay Williams will not. Let the Heat have him. On the other hand, a guy like DS would help us. I'm still hopeful we can make some kind of trade and do better than DS.

I have to say inuries these days are alot easier to overcome and to arrive at a team with 2 stars 1 solid player and an average starter in a rotation he doesn't have to come in and be as important as he was to chicago.

I was studying in Spain the past two months and got a chance to watch Travis Hansen's Tau Ceramica team take on Real Madrid in the finals.

He's not bad, certainly a dead-eye, but hardly an improvement.

On the other hand, he was in the Madrid airport going home when I was, and he does have a hot wife. Certainly an area we need improvement in.

Jwill is too risky to keep on the roster. We need a healthy player who is consistent. If not Damon, I'd take a flier on Dan Dickau. He is young and improving, ... and healthy, and relatively inexpensive.

I don't see much downside to bringing him in and giving him a shot. I don't expect him to be nearly the athlete that he was pre-inury, but he's a cerebral player and probably has a lot of hunger to come back (he's been re-habbing for a while just to get back to this point). Although we drafted Head, nobody would say that we have our PG of the future yet, so I'm all for taking a flyer on Williams.

Dickau is an interesting prospect. There isn't much buzz about him even though he had a relatively good run with the Hornets reminiscent of another journeyman PG's "trip-dub" season with the Hawks. This years Bob Sura?
