When defenses start keying in on Hopkins, then we'll see how good he is. Right now it appears that Andre is still getting the most attention from opposing defenses. I am hopeful that Hopkins can prove to be a legit #1 Wide Receiver in the NFL, but that hasn't happened yet. Patterson has nobody that can take pressure off of him in Minnesota. He has no running back, no other receiving threats, and a bad offensive line.
I do kind of wonder what Patterson would look like if he was on a team with a QB as good as Fitzpatrick has been this year. He might look like a totally different WR.
Not as much about QB as it is about Wide Receivers, Running Back, Offensive Line, and coaching. Peyton Manning could be throwing to him but when whole defenses only have to worry about one player that player is not going to put up stats.
Well sure, there are lots of things getting in the way, but if you improved the QB then I think it would improve his performances as well. Impossible to say though, but having one of the worst QB's in the NFL throwing you the ball isn't exactly the environment where many WR's thrive. Andre Johnson overcame David Carr, but Andre is one of the greatest to play the game. Greg Jennings is doing the best he can, but it's a lot to overcome.
If you are elite you can put up numbers regardless of what is around you. Just saying that Patterson, nor Hopkins, are elite yet. I think Hopkins has potential to be a #1 type receiver, but he hasn't proven it yet this year being on this team with Andre apparently still taking up double teams etc. Jennings is done btw.
That's not what I'm referring to and you know it. FYI, it ain't the QB that's keeping the WR on the field for three whole plays.
what makes a no.1 receiver? forget scoring in the endzone, we got watt? for that. Deandre catches anything under the ozone layer, can catch first downs, can yac it like a mudder. yup he has the makings of a number 1. He is not that great at blocking though. trade him!
Hopkins can definitely be a #1. His body control and his hands are elite...he might not have the size of Megatron or the speed of some of the quicker receivers...but he has enough going for him where he is a threat anywhere on the field.
I can't argue with the #'s... It's going to be interesting to see how Nuk performs without AJ on the field with him next year.
Not sure he's a #1 because of all the pressure AJ takes off of him. But he's a player for sure. Great, great hands.
