In Cooperstown. Lot's of Astros fans present wearing the jerseys. I think we outnumbered all other fans, but the Dominican Republic were loudest. Probably about 40k fans total. Locals said Ripken drew 70k. Good views. Was sunny and hot, but no rain as predicted. So perfect day. My dad and I chatted with Luis Titant and Bert Campaneris. Loved when Randy Johnson mentioned he pitched his best in Houston. Saw a blimp. Thought it was funny when Ricky Henderson showed up late. Overall good time! Tips if you go for Bagwell. People set their folding chairs up the day before the ceremony and then come back for the actual dig! The setting is beautiful with the stage settled in a field right in the middle of green hills on all sides and lots green trees and blue skies. Hike from Cooperstown to the Event is about a mile, but goes quickly. Everyone has a good view. Easy to get food at the event and memorabilia. Lines are not long. Cooperstown was easy going and easy to navigate. Didn't even feel like a crowd, just like any other casual day in a small town. Lots of Hall of Famers breezing around in what amounts to two blocks of town. There was no stress getting about, lot's of fun. Texans all friendly. Congrats to Biggio!
You mean they actually exist, like, literally? The HoF governs inductee speeches? That's insane. Is there a link?
I guess these so called "rules" are like the Academy awards for speeches. They may be in place, but they don't keep people from saying what they want to say.
The only person who has gone out of his way in his speech to stump for another player to be inducted was noted jackhole Joe Morgan. It is not done, it's classless, the people who run the HOF do not want it, and criticizing Biggio is ludicrous.
Agreed The speech isn't to be political It's about the guy who made the HOF, and those he feels are close to him
