Ted Cruz was a senior at my school when I was in 8th grade.

The only dirt I've got on ol' Teddy was when they did senior "skip day" and went down to the beach, he was the first to pass out. He showed up at school the next Monday with one (if not both) of his eyebrows shaved off.

 

They should have that right as well, but Israel is not threatening to behead and mass murder them. Both Shiites and Sunnis are committing mass murder (against each other), and it is really hard to decide which party is even worse in that regard. So hard that, in fact, the USA seem to be bombing Sunnis (ISIS) alongside the Shiites in Iraq and Syria, while supplying help to the Sunnis to bomb the Shiites in Yemen.

No it isn't. This is the type of absolutist thinking that causes a lot of the problems in the world but for this issue there are two key things:
1. Israel isn't the US and while Israel has a right to exist but not everything it does is in US interests. As I said before no country has the exact same interests.
2. This is the type of the thinking that guys like Mathloom bring up that somehow it is the US's responsibility to fix problems in the region. Yes the US does support people in the region but the idea that the US should support one group or the other and consequently take the blame for what those groups do is a big problem. It removes the responsibility from those countries and groups to change and instead engage in a blame America attitude. As I said before Israel has shown it can stand up for itself. It did so in 1948 and quite ably in 1967 without a lot of US help. The US doesn't need to stand up for Israel unless Israel really is so fragile that it will colllapse suddenly without massive injections of US aid.

Really? Those fanatical elements can't even wipe out Bashar Assad let alone the most advanced military in the region. Seriously do you really believe that those fanatical elements who seem much more concerned with killing each other can somehow unite to try to overwhelm Israel through raw numbers? Consider that Israel fought off truly united regional armies before so how are now groups that are caught up in vicious blood feuds against each other going to unite to fight Israel? You really think Shiite militia and radical ISIS fanatics would unite behind a secular strong man like Sisi or an entrenched Sunni Monarchy like the house of Saud?

Even if they could this isn't the Civil War or Stalingrad where you could overwhelm your opponent's positions just by throwing sheer numbers of bodies at them. As Israel showed itself that just doesn't work in an age of highly technological warfare.

Honestly the idea that Israel would suddenly collapse in the face of it's enemies unless the US keeps on supporting it is almost insulting to Israel.

The commander of the Basij militia of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said that “erasing Israel off the map” is “nonnegotiable,” according to an Israel Radio report Tuesday

Militia chief Mohammad Reza Naqdi also threatened Saudi Arabia, saying that the offensive it is leading in Yemen “will have a fate like the fate of Saddam Hussein.”

Naqdi’s comments were made public as Iran and six world powers prepared Tuesday to issue a general statement agreeing to continue nuclear negotiations in a new phase aimed at reaching a comprehensive accord by the end of June.

In 2014, Naqdi said Iran was stepping up efforts to arm West Bank Palestinians for battle against Israel, adding the move would lead to Israel’s annihilation, Iran’s Fars news agency reported.

“Arming the West Bank has started and weapons will be supplied to the people of this region,” Naqdi said.

“The Zionists should know that the next war won’t be confined to the present borders and the Mujahedeen will push them back,” he added. Naqdi claimed that much of Hamas’s arsenal, training and technical knowhow in the summer conflict with Israel was supplied by Iran.

The Basij is a religious volunteer force established in 1979 by the country’s revolutionary leaders, and has served as a moral police and to suppress dissent.

In January, a draft law that would give greater powers to the Basij to enforce women’s compulsory wearing of the veil was ruled unconstitutional.

The force holds annual maneuvers, sometimes with regular Iran units.

Regarding the OP headline: Obama finds it easy to stand up to Israel because they are our friends and allies. I wish he had the brass to stand up to Iran, but that is not so easy ... so he won't. I truly wonder how he conceived children with such a limp noodle.
