RIP Dynamic Duo. Their tenure had some ups and and it surely had downs but as a Rocket fan I'm ready to cleanse myself of these two clowns. McHale you're great as a TV personality and you were an even better player but as a coach you were average and as a GM even worse.
Remember when so many posters thought they contributed to getting McHale fired, and they celebrated so much? I wonder if they are still celebrating, or now they just feel like shallow a-holes who know nothing about basketball. . . .
There it is, a picture of two of the worst coaches in the history of the NBA. Took underachieving to a new level.
Got rid of a hall of famer with the best winning % in franchise history and replaced him with their homey JB. I thought Mchale should have gotten canned after the Portland series but to replace him with this guy JB 11 games into a season in which we were promised contention is the dumbest thing I've ever seen.
In hindsight everything was a mistake and fool's gold Harden, McHale, JBB, Howard, Role players Should have gone another way or tank the way to a superstar
You have a strange definition of "underachieving". In 2011, nobody expected the Rockets to field a winning team in the first year of the post-Yao rebuilding year. Their roster was filled with nameless faces nobody recognized, plus a disgruntled Kevin Matin. But they finished the season above .500 to the surprise of everyone. In 2012, nobody imagined they'd make the playoffs before the season started. Not even the most optimistic Rockets fan. But they finished the season with a playoff berth, fielding the youngest team in the entire league. In 2014, nobody in their right minds would've predicted the Rockets would reach the conference finals. NOBODY. Not after they whiffed in their attempts to lure Bosh and Melo in free agency... and then lost Chandler Parsons in the process. But there they were in the conference championship. McHale haters have absolutely no perspective. The Rockets have absolutely overachieved in 3 of his 4 full seasons.
The reality is, JBB is the interim coach. Morey's plan was to let Harden and Durant hand pick their coach. But it backfired. I can't imagine Durant would want to come and play for this mess of a team.
Durant isn't coming to play for a lottery team.... Unless we win the lottery! Which are about the same odds we would have of beating GSW in a first round series.
Or Morey understands the importance of a good (real) coach or we are doomed to repeat the failures over and over again .
JB is not the guy, but neither was McHale. Everyone in the national media loved to lambast the Rockets for dumping him after 11 games, but you see no fans of teams clamoring for the their team to sign him now. The dude was an empty suit who played politics and made himself indispensable to the organization in the same vein of Rick Smith. If you are the CEO of a corporation, you can sustain a few empty suits in managerial positions like that, but find one in an extremely important one and your company will suffer as a result. McHale did his clap clap clap thing, but in the end he couldn't come up with any good ideas for plays that the team could run, and he certainly couldn't stand toe to toe with any of the good coaches in the league. We will be better off in the long run now that McHale and JB are gone.
